Special Meeting, 8 w.m. All members present.
The Read Committee of Council having made their yearly inspection
of roads and bridges On tWo previous days decided that the Road
Programme for 1948 should be:

L. T. Johnston.
Mr. Westney took the chair and gave a summary of t~ progress
of the Area to date. Mr. Booth, High School Inspector, Mr. Archibald,
Public School Inspector and Mr. Wm. Manning, County Clerk were asked
to speak, then there wes a general discussion.
The meeting adjourned at 11.30 p.m.

A Special'MeetinE of Council was called f~r May. 19, 1948.
Ail members present.
Dr. McEwen, seconded by Mr. Belsdon, moves for leave to introduce a BY-law
to obtaim the assent of the electors of the Police Village of Pickering to
the borrowin$ of a certain sum for the purposes of a Community Memorial HalI,
and that same now be read a f~rst time.
Dr. McEwen, seconded by Mr. BalSdon, moved that By-law No. 1747 to obt2ih
the assent of the electors of the Police Village of Pickering to the-borrow-
ing cf a certain sum for the purposes of a Community ~mmoriel Hall,be ~ew
read a second time, and that Council go into committee of the whole thereon.
Dr. McEwen, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves that the report of the committee
ef the ~ole on By-law No. 1747 be adopted and that the said By-law be now
read a third time, that the same do now pass, that the Reeve and Clerk sign
the same, and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.

Agreed that Dr. N. E'. McEwen attend the Clerk's office on Tuesday
June 15th to name scrutineers.
Change o~ Agreed that as the date set for the June meeting fell on Election
Date Day, that Council meet on TUesday, June 1, 1948.
High Moved by Dr. McEwen, seconded by Mr. Burk, that the Township of
School Picketing ask the County of Ontario to set up a High School Area
Area te include the Township of Picketing. Carried.
The yeas and nays were asked for and resulted as follows:
Yeas: McEwen, Burk, Disney, Balsdon.
Nays: ~ii'estney.
The members of Scarborough Council with o~ficials were introduced
Suggested and Reeve Crockford stated that Johns-Manville had requested a
Paving paved road to No. 2 Highway; he thought that the logical road to
of be paved would be ih miles of the Townline. It was thought that
Road perhaps the province would pay 60% of cost, and Reeve Crockford
by suggested that Scarborough pay 60% balance with Pickering paying
Scarboro 40%. Reeve Westney stated his Council would discuss the matter
and let Scarborough know their intentions after the next Council
meeting.
Moved by Mr. Burk, seconded by ~,~r. Disney that Council adjourn.
Carried.
