Mr. Chatten read from a prepared brief on the matter pertaining to the future of the Township of Pickering suggesting that the Township take initiative in its fuàlre. The Council should COllUnence immediate negotiations with the senior levels of government and the O.W.R.C.. for the financing of a new city. The City of Pickering. Waller, that Mr. Tyas of School Area No. 2 be informed that Council will endeavour to initiate a Local Improvement on Whites Sideroad in 1967 and if successful, arrange for the installation of a 6" p watermain to the proposed Senior Public School subject to: THAT the School Board pay the entire cost of the 6" p wate13&ins and appurtenances from the Whites Side~oad watermain westerly to the site of the Sen~ Publ~c School. Swan versus the Township of Pickering on building regulations.. and also to engage the necessary legal assistance, as recommended by the Finance Committee on February 3, 1967. Spang, that the Clerk be directed to request the Department of Highways to keep all firehall entrances to provincial Highways free of snow during snow plough- ing operations, as recommended by the Finance Committee on February 3, 1967. McPherson, that the Council request assistance from the Department of Municipal Affairs and that the Clerk and Treasurer with two members of Council, (Councillor Williams and Reeve Laycox) arrange to visit the Deputy Minister, Mr. W. H. Palmer, for the purpose of establishing the limits of such assistance as outlined in the letter from Mr. Palmer, dated December 29, 1966 as recommended by the Finance Committee on Pebruary 3, 1967. Beer moves for leave to introduce a By-law of The Township of Pickering to appoint an additional member to the Township of Pickering Crown Game Preserve and that same now be read a first time. Councillor H. Span~, seconded by Councillor N. Waller moves that By-law Number 3251 to appoint an add~ional member to the Township of Pickering Crown Game Preserve be now read a second time, and that council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The committee of the Whole arises and reports the By- law as read. Councillor H. SPang, seconded by Deputy Reeve J. L. McPherson moves that the report of the committee of the Whole on By-law Number 3251 be adopted, and that the said By-law be now read a Third Time and PASSED, 'that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIEJ> . REPORTS Reeve Laycox advises Council that the County of Ontario has Agreed to take over the maintenance of Bayv iew Heights Rd. from Liverpool !toad, west to Fairport Rd. MOVED by Deputy Reeve Mrs. J. L. McPherson, seconded by councillor R. Chatten that Miss V. Swan be heard. Miss Swan inquired why the Township was appealing their case against her with respect to building without a permit and on what authority did Mr. G. Zeller act in instructing Mr. Browin to proceed with an appeal to the County Court? Miss V. Swan indicated she was prepared to fight the Township, and that it could cost the Township thousands. of dollars. The Council advised Miss Swan that a teeolution subaitted by the Finance committee to Council authorizes the By-law Officer to retain legal assistance. See Resolution #49/67. ~ CORRFSPONDENCB I. Miller, General Solicitor, Canadian Pacific Re: Proposed improvements at the crossing of the C.P.R. and Town Line Road between Township of Pickering and Markham, Ontario at Mileage 192.92 Belleville Subd. advises that C..P.R. has no objection to improving the grades at the above crossing provided the costs are divided in accordance with the Board's formula. Craig, Zeidler & Strong Re: Pickering Municipal Building advises that the above building is complete as of January 13, 1967 with provision that all corrections to the wor~ will be done under the one year guarantee clause of the contract. 3..
