HomeMy WebLinkAboutOctober 23, 1972 24/72 COUNCIL MEETING A meeting of the Pickering Township Council was held on MONDAY, the 23rd day of OCTOBER, 1972, at 9:25 P.M. PRESENT: Reeve J. R. Williams Deputy Reeve G. Ashe Councillors - J. Anderson Mrs. J. L. McPherson D. Kitchen K. Matheson Clerk D. J. Plitz Township Manager, C. I. Shelley (Councillor D. Quick - Absent) Council adjourned out of Executive Committee Open Session to reconvene into Council to deal with the matter of the Expropriation Notices served on the Township of Pickering by the Federal Department of Public Works for lands for the site of the proposed new Toronto AirpoI't. Judge T. Moore was present on behalf of the Greenwood Ratepayers' Association to learn from Council what Council intends to do in respect to the Notice of Expropriation -- are they taking a position, and if so, were they making a submission? After some discussion, the fellow!ng motion was put. MOTION MOVED by Councillor J. Anderson, seconded by Councillor Mrs. J. L. McPherson, that the Township of PickeI'ing object to the expropriation of Township owned land by the Federal Government for airport purposes on the grounds that the need for a second airport in the Toronto area has not been fully established. Also to object to Township Roads being claimed as public and no compensation being paid by the Federal Government to the Township; and this objection to be for- warded to Minister of Public Works. LOST Recorded Vote: Yes: Mrs. McPherson, Messrs. Anderson, Matheson, No: Messrs. Williams, Ashe, Kitchen (CoUncillor Quick - Absent) The question received an equal vote and therefore is deemed to be negative. Deputy Reeve G. Ashe proposed and put the following motion. RESOLUTION #333/72 MOVED by Deputy Reeve G. Ashe, seconded by Councillor D. Kitchen, trat the Resolution passed unanimouSly by the Council of the. Township of Pickering as Resolution '82/72, March 6, 1972, and which reads as follows -- "Resolution #82/72 MOVED by Councillor D. Quick, seconded by Councillor K. Matheson, that this Council is opposed to the con- struction of a second Toronto airport in the location suggested by the Federal and Provincial Governments, and the proposed method of implementation of such a project. CARRIED Continued - 2 - 2~/72 Recorded Vote: Yes: Mrs. McPhersOß, Mes srs. And~on:t AShe, Williams, Quick, Matheson, Kitchen No: Nil" -- be re-endorsed and further that the Council of the Township of Pickering does strongly object to the lack of compensation for all public and common highways within the lands described in Paragraphs 1 - ~3 inclusive of The Expropriation Notice. Quick - Absent) Adjournment Moved by Councillor J.Anderson, seconded by Councillor K.
