PICKERING NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION INFORMATION CENTRE Present Mayor Wayne Arthurs - Chair Members: Al Goodall, Community Representative Gordon Reidt, City of Pickering Debbie Kearns, City of Pickering Pat O’Brien, Pickering Nuclear Presenters: John Froats, Pickering Nuclear Brian McTavish, Pickering Nuclear John DeWilde, Pickering Nuclear Regrets: David Steele, PACT Karen Paul, Durham Nuclear Awareness 1. Adoption of Minutes of the Meeting of June 14, 2000 Moved by Al Goodall that the minutes of the meeting of September 13th, 2000 be adopted as circulated. CARRIED 2. Ontario Power Generation Presentations a) Site Update John Froats, provided the following update:  Vacuum Outage finished  Unit 7 back on line  All four units back on line  Problems being experienced with zebra mussels – covered intake  2 Reactor Trips – under allowable amount by WANO – both trips were human error  WANO team arrived December 8th – evaluating performance of staff  Unit 5 will come down on February 2nd for boiler cleaning b) Groundwater Study Overview Overheads were distributed for information. (Copies attached) 3. Other Business a) Mayor Arthurs initiated a discussion concerning the continuation of the Pickering/Ontario Hydro Liaison Committee. The Community Advisory Council is a vehicle to address issues and concerns which can be utilized by City Council. Pat O’Brien advised that Tom Melymuk, Division Head, Corporate Projects & Policy, with the City of Pickering, represents the City at all Community Advisory Council meetings and he provides Council with information which allows them the opportunity to address issues. It was concluded that this Committee should no longer meet. - - 2 - - Mayor Arthurs questioned the representation needed from Pickering and Ajax on the Community Advisory Council. Pat O’Brien stated that it would be beneficial to have representation from all Ratepayer Groups and the Durham Nuclear Health Committee. Presently there are 15 members on the CAC including representation from the City of Pickering, the Fairport Beach Ratepayers Association and the Rouge Valley Ratepayers Association in Scarborough. The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority is also represented as is the Town of Ajax, the Region of Durham Public Works, and the Ajax Pickering Board of Trade. Several capable individuals who expressed an interest in serving on the committee bring an experiential background to committee discussions. A list of the CAC membership is attached. Pat O’Brien advised that quarterly reports will continue to be sent to City Council, public information meetings and Open Houses will continue to be held and newsletters will continue to be mailed. Mayor Arthurs will advise all Committee Members of the decision to dissolve the Pickering/Ontario Hydro Liaison Committee. Meeting adjourned at 8:16 p.m.
