1. Welcome and Introductions
2. Year 2001 Committee Projects / Events
Through Other Eyes
• Manraj outlined what this event involves, advising of the activities which
individuals participate in. This outreach event educates those participating in
the difficulties experienced by physically disabled individuals.
Margaret questioned the activities or projects the Committee has been involved in in
prior years and the possibilities for the upcoming .year.
Dave advised that the Frenchman's Bay Festival has been in touch with the City of
Pickering looking for a youth event. The Committee discussed this at length putting
forward the following ideas:
a) Jane suggested creating a video, speaking with individuals at the festival as well
as having a speakers corner;
b) Phil suggested restaurants be approached for inclusion in the video, possibly a
power point presentation be created also which could be available to publicize•the
diverse society of Pickering;
c) two or three different shades of painted banners be available for anyone interested
in signing their name and placing their brilliantly colored painted hand print on
- -2 --
the banner to show the diverse society within Pickering. Paper could also be
made available for children to take home with their hand print on.
Phil recommended that the Committee not rush with these ideas but to investigate
what venues are available for the Committee to become involved in.
Ikram urged the Committee to ensure that it is organized before proceeding and to set
goals, schedules and long term planning.
Committee members were requested to bring a list of the various events that the City,
schools and other organizations are involved in.
(Since this meeting Dave has requested that I inform the Committee Members
that it will not be possible to become involved in the Frenchman's Bay Festival
but that budget money is available and approval granted for involvement with
Canada Day in a similar type of program idea.)
