1.0 Welcome All
K. Mark welcomed everyone to the meeting and introductions
were made. He introduced A. Kamara of Canadian Cup of
African Caribbean Nations as a delegate of the meeting.
Ammar Kamara, President of Canadian Cup of African
Caribbean Nations appeared before the Committee and
through the use of a presentation, provided background
information and an overview of objectives. They would like to
work with the City of Pickering and Durham Soccer
Association to provide a Cultural Festival Day in July,
encouraging, soccer games between cultures with youth and
women. Possibility of funding also requested. M. Carpino
suggested that this should be a discussion with the Pickering
Soccer Association regarding feasibility.
A question and answer period ensued.

That the Minutes of the April 14, 2011 meeting of the
Advisory Committee on Diversity be approved.
Carried.
K. Mark reviewed the action items. M. Carpino provided an
update that she had spoken with Councillor Ashe's Executive
Assistant. She spoke directly with K. Richards at meeting
regarding follow up to "Youth in Policing" information. Draft
letter regarding the Nelson Mandela Children's Foundation is
underway..
3.0 Correspondence
K. Mark discussed the Nelson Mandela Children's
Foundation package from April 14, 2011 meeting.
Committee-discussed and thought best to defer any requests
until after the Mandate and Terms of Reference were
approved in order to provide appropriate direction of requests
as within the Committee's scope.
M. Carpino discussed a memorandum from Clerk's Office
stating that Council had received and endorsed the
Committee's Work Plan.
4.0 New Business
(a) Committee Mandate & Terms of Reference
Discussion ensued regarding stat sheet prepared by
Councillor Ashe regarding Mandate and Terms of Reference.
Committee revised the Mandate & Terms of Reference. Draft
attached to form art of Minutes of May 12, 2011 meeting.

.0 Other Business
C. Harper advised that she sat in at Durham LGBTQ and
Pride Durham Committee meeting. Flag raising at City of
Pickering to be held on June 13tH
K. Mark advised of the Hispanic Cultural event. Councillor
Dickerson was in attendance. Fun and educational.
Discussion was held regarding forums for groups to host
events. M. Carpino advised that Cultural and Heritage
events and monthly declarations received positive feedback
and were Council endorsed.
6.0 Next Meeting Adjournment
The next meeting will be held June 9, 2011.
