All -residents of West Rouge are urged to attend the first Open Meeting of our new season next fired. evening. Cliff Laycox, our Ward 5 council- lor, will bring us up-to-date on re- cent developments at Brougham. The new aseessment picture will be discussed. Council members and Mr. Ed Fleury, who acted as solicitor in the assessment appeal last year, will be asked to comment on its likely effect on next year's tax rate. Candidates for the forthcoming municipal election ( for a T40 YEAR term) are expected to declare them- selves. All this ehould be both interest-- ing and important. And your executive needs your opinion in charting its course for the coning year. Light refreshments (free) and a social half --hour will follow the meet- ing. NEd ASSESSMENTS OUT The policy of lav ng a-DT_9_F r assess- ment on land which our Association ad- vocated last year (but not unanimoucly) is refice-ted in the new assessments that hoxeoriaers received recently. The effect that thin adjustment will have on the actual taxes remains, to bo seen. Theoretically, there should be a sizeable reduction in the mill rate, AUCTION RAI51;33_L 00 The service projects of our West Rouge Kiwanis Club are assured of financial euNport for another year, thanks to the evcccss of the second annual Auction Sale on Sept. 16. It is not yet clear whether the financing of the trunk line to Frenchmen's Bay will be through C.H.M.C. or under the winter works scheme. The newuge diepoaal plant itself is almost completed. %we' hope to havc complete details of the cost to the individual home- owner for the next iasue of the "FAIRWAY". SOCCER TEAM WIFS CHA113IOVSHIF West Rouge is proud of its Atom ;soccer team who brought home the cup for the Metro District championship last wee),-. Congratulations to the boys and their coa.chect. See Jim Lloydiv Sports column for further details, TIIE PRESIDENT'S CORNER Dear Neighbours: Your executive has been active throli;hout the surimer and a tot of work has been done. We have made enquiries of Council about who pays for paving of roads throughout our area after the installation of sewers, and nre disturbed to learn that the excess of present cost over the amount received from subdividers may or may not be paid out of general towrrhiD funds, depending on the wishes of tle NEXT council. ,,7e have expressed concern over the wey Council glibly reversed deci- eione on the Water Tower lettering (road paving or severing proposals could jv.st as easily be reversed;) We have pressed Council into action on the Parkette. A Parks Found has been set up to look after Zenerel beautification of our area, and as a result of these efforts work hrs now been started on the Parkette itself. Ne now have up-to-date facts and figures which give some idea of the relative costs of living each Bide of the Sca.rboro Town Line. These certainly sugE:e st the need for sorae drastic changes in thinking at Brougham. Our next project is the very necessary membership campe.ign. In the next few days you will be approach- ed by oneof ,our nerr executive members who will solicit your yearly family membership fee of 1.00.--we-need your dollar to carry on our program, but even more we need YOU are an active member of the W.R.C.A. for the strength of an association such as ours is measured largely by the length of its menlberchip list end the turn -out at our open meetings. Fewer thtin_ EC people bothered to attenl. our June open meeting, the prircipel business of which was to hear the reoorts of last winter's investiKa- tion into the pros and cons of joining Scarborough. If you, want your Associa- tion to function actively this year you will have to show a far greater interest. Your new president has no intention of flog;ing a dying, horse. Because of this lack of interest in. the Scarborough issue your executive hue decided to Bhelve the project for the present, find va ll devote its atten- tion to other methods of improving; our Ict while remaining; part of Pickcrink; Rouge Hill Drugs 111/110H 1111.1, HII6I'1'ING CUNTHE Opot Tlll 9.36 Everelrrgi 14ATCH FOR 1f 3;,1E OCT. 16 - 21st.
