The Contractor will be the successful tenderer for the work. The work to be done under this contract embraces the following: (a) Clearing the area in which the vault is to be constructed. (b) Construction of the vault according to the plan provided. (c) Opening the portion of the church floor, in the location and finishing the same, in accordance with the plan. The material necessary for the completed work as listed on the plan will be supplied by the committee. All tools, erection material and labour to be supplied by the contractor. The contractor will commence the work within weeks of the award of the contract and will proceed with a minimum of delay to carry on and complete the work in a manner satisfactoi-y to the committee. The contractor will provide all measures necessary to protect the existing structure, the work and materials from damage and the employees from accident. The work to be done is as follows: - Construct a vault as shown on the plan in the North East corner of the basement under the church. The roof of the vault will consist of Haydite roof slabs of approximately 3�" x 1811 x 10'-0" in size and 200 lb. in weight supported at one end by a steel angle to be bolted to the existing concrete block wall by approximately 14-5/811� bolts and at the other by an 8" concrete block wall to be constructed on the existing concrete floor as a footing. A door of the size and type indicated will be pro- vided in the wall. - 2 - In drilling the holes to bolt on the supporting angle care must be taken to produce a minimum of spalling on the outside face of the wall. 4here spalling has occurred, the holes must be plugged with concrete to the minimum size necessary for the bolt and the surface must be restored to provide a satisfactory bearing for the washer under the bolt head. The angle when bolted must be level and tight against the inside face of the wall. Extreme care must be taken in raising the Haydite slabs into place to avoid breakage or accident. The joints between success- ive slabs will be tight and run in with cement mortar. The contrete block wall supporting the outer end of the slabs must be constructed, with 2" joints - vertical and horizontal, of 1:3 mortar, true to line and plumb. The base course on either side of the door will be of full blocks. The top course will be full blocks in which the spaces have been filled with 2" of con- crete, sufficiently preceding use that the filler has had op.Nor- tunity to set. The solid face of these will be at the top to form a bearing for the slab ends. The interviewing vertical space may be poured as a unit with concrete or filled with pre- cast blocks of concrete of correct depth to keep the Haydite slabs level. Ties and vertical rods for the door frame will be placed as the wall is built up. The door frame with hinges embedded will be formed up and poured as a unit. The forms must be rigid and supported at sufficient intervals to leave the resultant opening of correct size and true to shape. The doors will be constructed of two layers of 2" x 10" spruce place dressed four sides with one layer of asbestos paper between: The outer layer is to have the plank vertically and the inner layer to have it horizontally. The layers are to be joined by four inch nails clinched on the inside. After fitting to work freely the whole will be given two coats of the fire resisting solution provided. - 3 - The vent pipe will be inserted as close to the underside of the roof slab as possible. The pipe to be fixed firmly in place against the outside wall of the building and the hole through the concrete wall packed with cement grout of mortar strength. The floor opening - The floor will be carefully cut along the lines provided, on the inner face of the joists indicated, after the battens shown have been secured to the under side. The area of flooring is then to be detached from the central joist and removed. The central joist will then be removed from the area of the opening and a header inserted to carry the unsupported end remaining. The said joist will then be fitted on brackets at the ends to be easily removable. The interior of the opening; all around to be faced with 1" x 8" dressed spruce to provide bearing for the replacable floor. Payments will be made by the committee as the work progresses.
