The Magnetism of the Risen Christ
"Whom having not seen you love;in whom,
though now you see Him not, you rejoice
with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
receiving the end of your faith, even the
salvation of your souls"
1 Peter 1. 8,9.
1XI,
A PRAYER FOR VACATIONERS
"God of the Hills, as a result of my vacation, grant me the strength to go back into
the city without faltering;
Strength to do my daily tasks without tiring and with enthusiasm,
Strength to help my neighbour who has no hill$ to remember.
God of the Lakes, grant me. Thy peace and restfulness,
Peace to bring into. the world of hurry and confusion'.
Restfulness to carry to the 'tired one I meet everyday,
Contentedness to do small things with a freedom from littleness.
Self-control for the unexpected. emergency and patience for the wearisome task,
With the calm of Christ in my soul to bear me through crowded places;
The hush of the night-time when the pine trees are dark against the sky line,
The humbleness of the hills, who in their night know it not,
The laughter of the sunny days to brighten the cheerless spots in the winter ahead.
God of the Stars, .may I take:back with me love and friendship for all,
Fill me with a great tenderness for the needy person at every turn,
May I live out the truth which Thou hast taught me by every thought and word
and deed.
Through Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour." AMEN.
Pictured on the cover of this Bulletin is the entrance to The United Church
House, 85 St. Clair Avenue East, Toronto 7. This building houses the national
offices of the Boards, Departments, Divisions and the General .Council of The
United Church of Canada. This building. was dedicated on June io, 1959• Just
inside the entrance, off the main foyer, is the Chapel. .
The United Church of Canada was formed in 1925 by the union of three
streams of religious traditions and cultures in Canada —Congregational, Metho-
dist, and Presbyterian. Our heritage is thus three -fold. Visitors to Canada from
these traditions in other countries will find an "at-home feeling" in The United
Church of Canada.
The Outreach of the Church is financed by a Unified Budget Fund which
combines the money given to the Missionary and Maintenance Fund and that
given by the United Church Women.
