PICKERING TOWNSHIP PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE
A meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was held on
WEDNESDAY the TWEA?TY-FIFTH day of AARCH, 1964„ at the Municipal
Building, Brougham.

MINUTES
MOVED by Mr- Ryan, seconded by Air. Hopkins, that Minutes of meeting
held March 25, be approved. CARRIED
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Notice from Township Clerk, L. T. Johnston, that Parks and
Recreation. Budget was set at Council Meeting on March 16,
1964, as follows:
Parks - .25 Mills - $75062,15
Recreation - .25 Mills - 7,062.14
714,124.29
2. Budget frog: Fairport Beach Recreation Committee, requesting
equipment for Girls' Team, and House League; an amount of
$75.00 for repair of seats and net; and $750.00 for ice rink
expenses for forthcoming winter.
3. Request from Dunbarton Athletic Club for financial assistance
in settling rental account to Pickering High School of $24C.00.
See Resolution.
4. Agreement between Rouge Hill Community Hall and Department of
Agriculture, signed by Ministers wherein a grant of $3325.00
is accepted, and the Board agrees to maintain the Hail and
Park from year to year as a community centre under the
Community Centres Act.
5. Letter from Community Programmes Branch, Department of
Education, announcing Provincial Leadership Institute June 7-13,
1964.
6. Catalogue of Community Interests from Community Programmes
Branch. Letter suggesting that Secretary complete survey by
March 25, 1964. See Resolution.
7. 3ntario Recreation Association Bulletin re keynote speaker
for Conference at Windsors May 1 & 2.
8. Literature on Doon School of Fine Arts, Summer, 1964.
DELEGATIONS
1. On MOTION of Mr. Ryan, Mr. Miller was heard.
Mr. Robert Miller presented the Brougham Park Budget, totalling
$1$075.00. Mr. Miller said the one spectator stand in the
park had been built by free labour and donations of material,
and stated that another stand was needed. He explained that
the amount of $500.00 was in the budget for the two stands.
The balance of -he estimated costs in the 1964 budget was
for building a fence, hydro, caretaker, repairing stove and
cooler in booth, repairs to washrooms, and other incidentals.

Mr. Miller told the meeting that the lig:':ting system was
j installed in the park through the efforts of the people in
the district, both financially and by voluntary labour. He
j said that teams from all parts of the Township used this
illuminated park.

this year, to Mr. Miller, of installing lighting systems in
two parks in the south part of the Township, and gradually
getting all of the Township Parks in good shape. They said
it was possible that the budgets would be reduced so that
the capital expenditures could be made, after which budget money
would be distributed as equally as possible, the various parks
getting what they required over a period of time. Tho Chairman
said that the Brougham Park Budget would be considered with
the others at the next meeting.
Mr. Miller submitted the names of the 1964 members of the
Brougham Community- Centre, being Ross Knox, Chairman; Jean
Booth, Treasurer, Grant Johnston, Secretary, Robert Miller
and Donald Gibson. ( S-.., =---° )
2. Ted Oidfield appeared before the Committee asking for facts
and figures that he may present to a schDduled softball
meeting, re grants and equipment.
Mr. Ashton advised that the most chat could be received from
the Department of Education was $600.00 fcr the whole Township
recreation programme. A resolution was passed to provide
$1300.00 from the Township Recreation Budget for softball in
1964,
RESOLUTIONS
MOVED by Mr. Hopkins, seconded by Mr. Ryan, that a budget of
1 000.00 be allotted forthe purchase of ball equipment cr softball
operations in the following manner: Pickering Township Softball
League, $800; Claremont and District L::ague, $300.00; Lakeshore
League, $200.00; this money to be used only to subsidize Township
teams in the above Leagues. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Ryan, seconded by Mr. Boake, that the following names
Fe submitted to the Township Council to be appointed as members of
the Brougham Community Centres Board: Ross Knox, Jean Booth,
Grant Johnston., Robert Miller, and Donald Gibson. CARRIED
Note: Members appointed from Council to sit on the Brougham
Community Centre: Councillors W. G. Newman and Harvey Strang.
MOVED ht, Mr. Hopkins, seconded by Mr. Ryan, that a sum of money be
used to purchase land and school site on. Pickering Beach Road; that
the sum not exceed $250.001, and that a Board to manage and supervise
the park be appointed as stipulated in Act. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Ryan, seconded by Mr. Hopkins, that the sum of $240.00
be allowed the Dunbarton Athletic Club to retire their debt to the
High School Board for rental. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Ryan, seconded by Mr, Boake, that tenders be called and
submitted to this Board for:
a poled lighting system similar to the existing systems at
Brougham and Claremont to be installed in:
(a) East Woodlands Park
(b) Bay Ridges Park
these tenders, separate for each location, to be in the hands of
Mr. Ashton no later than 12 noon April 21, 1964. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Ryan, seconded by Mr. Boake, that Mr. Beer and Mr.
�rla- r ng be sent to the O.R.A. meeting in Windsor on behalf of this
com-ittee, their expenses to be underwritten ry this committee in
the amount of $125.00. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Hopkins, seconded by Mr. Ryan, that the Township Parks
and Recreation Committee arrange through Tar. Ashton for the purchase
and design of a suitable medal and that this medal be presented to
any individual, group or team that has achieved outstanding athletic
prowess or service. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Hopkins, seconded by Mr. Boake, that due to our
meeting date being March 25th, the request for your survey
concerning our recreation facilities and programming cannot be
completed, as requested; further that to complete such a survey
would require at least three months. CARRIED
