Ms. Scarlett and the rest of the group that’s been working to get an off-leash park in Pickering for the past three years are getting tired. “We believe our council has been pro- vided sufficient information to make a decision based upon the reports and options submitted over the last three years,” Ms. Scarlett said in a statement. “Frankly, it’s really not that complex.” The dog park working group, along with the City, has assessed dozens of sites and recommended 10 to the City since August 2006. There are a number of dog parks in Durham and the group doesn’t understand what’s taking coun- cil this long to make a decision. Just when group members had some hope after the Toronto and Region Con- servation Authority said a dog park could be installed on one of their properties at the foot of Westshore Boulevard, they were told it wouldn’t fly, Ms. Scarlett said. Mr. Figueira, 54, broke the news to the group. “I said to the group, ‘I have some bad news and good news’,” he said. “‘The bad news is that we didn’t win the jackpot, but the good news is that we won $62,184.’” The group has been playing the lottery together for two months and has various plans for the wind- fall. Among the Ajax residents, Mr. Figueira plans to pay some bills and go on vacation. Mr. Moorshead said he has no immediate plans for the cash. newsdurhamregion.comNews Advertiser • July 16, 20093 AP Residents think historical building could have been saved BY KRISTEN CALIS kcalis@durhamregion.com PICKERING -- When Lisa Case followed the sirens to the Claremont General Store on Sunday and saw a small amount of flames and smoke, she was sad but thought the building would be saved. After driving through town, she went back and was shocked to see the building burning down, and said firefighters weren’t fighting it. It turns out they had to wait for another fire vehicle to arrive after using up Claremont’s fire truck’s water supply. Although the first truck was on the scene in less than two minutes, said Pickering chief administra- tive officer Tom Quinn, the water from the Clare- mont truck ran out. They then had to wait about 10 minutes for another to attend the scene. “It must have seemed like an eternity waiting for that truck,” he said. Deputy Fire Chief Gord Ferguson said the transpor- tation of water ran rath- er smoothly. At the peak, there were more than 50 firefighters on the scene. Trucks from Stouffville, Uxbridge, Ajax and Whitby assisted to fight the blaze, for a total of 12 vehicles. “We ran shuttles back and forth between Pickering and Stouffville. We had a nice clear path.” In the end, the building was gutted, but no one was hurt. Ms. Case questioned why they weren’t able to access more water. She was one of several people who sent comments to the News Advertiser via e- mail, There are no fire hydrants in Pickering’s northern villages, but there’s water access; residents use wells. “Obviously something needs to be done,” she said. “The Town needs to figure out a way to have water storage up here so the tanker can fill itself fully and efficiently.” Mr. Quinn said a lot of the issue comes down to the building itself; the City has failed to extinguish past fires in the south that had fire hydrants nearby. “The problem is it’s not a normal building,” he said. It’s large for the area. If you’re going to construct a large building in an area without hydrants, “you just run that risk. “It was an incredible loss to lose a building that was 150 years old,” he said. “You can’t replace it.” He added knocking down the upper level was a tough decision, but it had to be done for safety rea- sons, and to save the building to the south of it. “We were really pleased to be able to contain the damage to that corner block,” said Deputy Chief Fer- guson. He noted there was a house “10 inches from the store and it sustained little or no damage. The owner was quite appreciative. He thought he would be look- ing for a new home.” Although Ms. Case was happy the fire hall close to her house was recently staffed full-time, she says she no longer sees the point. -- With files from Keith Gilligan Over 200 Stores & Services Gap Sirens Zellers Urban Behavior Holly’s La Vie en Rose The Body Shop Dynamite Reitman’s Costa Blanca TRISTAN Bluenotes’Garage Clothing Co.pickeringtowncentre.com Summer Sidewalk Sale Thursday, July16th - Sunday, July19th Amazing prices The best sale of the summer A special gift for me!✓ I want it all...I want it all... The Locust Hill Post Office, 7842 Hwy. 7, Locust Hill, will now ser- vice convenience box customers based out of the general store, as well as those carded for parcel pickup. Identification, which should be an original, current government- issued ID that includes a photo, will be required for pickup. In case of businesses, a person can be designated to pick up the mail, but the business must state on company letterhead that the person is autho- rized to pick up the mail. If there’s no letterhead, a business card with a business address with a letter also authorizing the person will be accepted. The designate will still have to produce proper identification. Whether mail was destroyed in the fire still hasn’t been deter- mined. Some restrictions apply. Officials contemplate region-wide rules for garbage BY REKA SZEKELY rszekely@durhamregion.com DURHAM -- A pilot project where residents switched to clear garbage bags produced a three-per cent increase in the amount of waste diverted from landfill, representing about 4,700 tonnes of blue box and green bin material. The study included two neighbourhoods, in Clarington and Pickering, and it ran from Jan. 15 to March 25. Residents were provid- ed with free clear bags. In the latter portion of the study, if recyclables and compost- ing material could be seen in the clear bags, garbage could have been left behind at the curb. Durham officials launched the study to find out whether switching to clear bags would be helpful in attaining the Region’s 70-per cent waste diversion goal. In 2008, Durham had a 51-per cent diversion rate. “I think the clear bag pilot study was suc- cessful on a number of fronts,” said Craig Bartlett, the Region’s manager of waste oper- ations. “First and foremost, it gave us an opportunity to do a more intense face-to- face with residents in the participating pilot areas.” However, Mr. Bartlett said the Region doesn’t know if the increased diversion was a result of the clear bags or a result of the pub- lic education that went along with launching the program. The greatest impact was seen with green bin items, with an average 14-per cent increase in participation in the program. It did not significantly increase blue box par- ticipation. About 1,400 households participated in the study and the public education cost was $37,000 plus $12,000 for the clear bags sup- plied to the residents. For now, Mr. Bartlett said the Region is looking for “low-hanging fruit” when it comes to diversion. “That is all being costed out, what we’re looking at is what’s the next lowest cost for diversion,” he said, citing mat- tress recycling as one possibility. Should Durham proceed with the clear bags program, it would take one to two years to implement, the final report on the issue said. The financial evaluation of a region- wide clear bags program and a recommen- dation on when or if it should be implement- ed will be part of Durham’s annual waste financing study in 2010. Tthe Region is also moving forward with a consultation process for a Region-wide waste management bylaw. Within the last decade, Durham has assumed waste management responsibilities for all the municipalities except for collection services in Whitby and Oshawa. However, the Region does not yet have a single waste bylaw that applies to everyone in Durham. “Durham Region is probably one of the few remaining municipalities of our size that doesn’t have a consistent bylaw in place,” said Mr. Bartlett. The draft bylaw is about 30 pages and out- lines things like garbage bag limits, what time garbage should be at the curb on a collection day, what items are to recycled or compost- ed, what kind of bins can be used and more. There are also rules against scavenging, which is removing items from the blue box, and dumping. The draft bylaw outlines fines of up to $25,000 for people and $100,000 for businesses. “The intention with the bylaw is not to go out there and be the garbage police and hit you for things that are somewhat minor,” said Mr. Bartlett. Instead, he said, the goal is clarity for resi- dents. The public will have its say on the bylaw at public meetings and the Region will con- sult with local municipalities about the issue. Staff will report the results to Regional coun- cil in the fall of 2010. REGION STUDY Durham clear-bag pilot produces modest rise in diversion rates CELIA KLEMENZ / METROLAND AJAX -- Homeowner Scott Grant took a blue box out to the curb on recycling day, July 2, in his neighbourhood. Tyshan Riley, 26, Phillip Atkins, 26, and Jason Wisdom, 23 were convicted of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and commit- ting murder for the benefit of a criminal organization. The courtroom was packed with family members, both of the defendants and victim Bren- ton Charlton, when the verdict was delivered to a passionate response. The three accused banged on the doors of the prisoners’ box and shouted after the verdicts were delivered. “I didn’t kill nobody,” Mr. Riley said repeatedly as the judge dis- missed the jury. Valda Williams, the mother of the dead man, also sobbed as the verdicts were delivered. The defendants all yelled at Judge Michael Dambrot as they were led from the court. The Crown had presented a largely circumstantial case against the three members of a gang called G-Way or Galloway Boys, named for their neigh- bourhood in southeastern Scar- borough. Prosecutors said they shot up a car they mistakenly believed belonged to a member of the rival Malvern Crew during the evening rush hour on March 3, 2004. That car carried two innocent victims. Mr. Charlton, 31, was killed, and Leonard Bell, now 48, was seriously wounded. At 18, Mr. Riley, of Scarborough, was sentenced to nine months in jail after pleading guilty to pos- sessing crack and assaulting a man during a pickup basketball game at a Pickering high school. A 22-year-old man from Ajax was hit several times by gunfire after Mr. Riley got into the scrap on the court. Another G-Way mem- ber was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison. Wiretap evidence, in the trial just ended, along with state- ments by former G-Way mem- bers, painted Mr. Riley as an ambitious and manipulative young man who considers him- self a leader. In his own words, he was “Mas- ter P on the block” who “takes care of everybody” and has “little peoples” do his bidding. He once summed up his guid- ing philosophy this way: “I eat, sleep, s--- and talk money, that’s the way to live.” But he is also seemingly capable of tenderness -- at least to his girlfriend, Dana Lee Williams, and her two young daughters, whose father was the gang leader whose slaying he is purported to have been seeking to avenge. “I love them derly (sic),” he wrote in a jail cell note that was admitted into evidence. -- Betsy Powell is a reporter with the Toronto Star Donate and Feel Great Your Unwanted Car Can Help Others • Receive a valuable tax receipt • Save the time & hassle of selling the vehicle yourself • Stop paying fees and premiums on an infrequently used vehicle • Stop spending so much in repairs • Free towing and vehicle pick up within 48 hours • Environmentally friendly program ALL CARS ARE ACCEPTED AND EVERY CAR MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE KIDNEY HEALTH AND IMPROVED LIVES FOR ALL PEOPLE AFFECTED BY KIDNEY DISEASE For detailed information call 1-866-788-CARS (2277) Or Donate Online at www.kidney.on.ca Commercial Accounts Available Celebrating10YearsinBusinessCelebrating 10 Years in Business HEAVY DUTY TRUCK PARTS COMING SOON AC Compressor From $16999 AC REFRIGERANT From $899 WE CARRY BODY PARTS PICKERING LOCATION 1648 BAYLY ST. As Canadians and role models of the world, we must teach our future genera- tions the two official languages, English and French, our identity and means of communication that we are all proud of. As proud as we are in our two languag- es, we have to also see the big picture and prepare our future generation for the challenges that lie ahead of them. They are to face a more challenging world than we live in today, a world that may require our children to speak more than two languages in order to do busi- ness and grow our economy globally. The more languages our Canadian future generation speaks, the more resources and tools they will have at hand to solve complex issues around the world. It is true that it’s the individual or par- ents’ responsibility to teach their mother tongue, but to bear the fruit and share it. The community involvement and under- standing of the issue should also be at the forefront. What is important is working together collectively. While I strongly believe that enrich- ing our children in different languages is the beneficial to our community and Canada, the issue of “Should the taxpay- ers contribute to language programs” is debatable and decisions can be made by the people of Durham and their elected representatives. Mengistu Berhanu Ajax PATRIOTISM Show proper respect if you fly the Canadian flag To the editor: It’s great to see that the citizens of Dur- ham Region are either behind the troops or just want to display their pride for this great country of ours by flying the Canadian flag. It is obvious that many people don’t realize there is a protocol befitting our national sym- bol. Flying a ripped or tattered flag is disre- spectful. Check out Heritage Canada webpage www. pch.gc.ca for more information. Please be responsible if you are flying the Canadian flag on a building, boat or car. Mike Sullivan Courtice CLIMATE CHANGE Beware of the myth of global warming To the editor: Scientists believe the last ice age began to end about 20,00 years ago and the ice sheets shrank to their approximate cur- rent locations by roughly 7,000 years ago. Obviously the earth warmed consider- ably (probably a good thing) during that time and I can guarantee that it was not due to the activities of ancient humans. I rather suspect that automobiles, fac- tories and coal-fired power plants were scarce during the glacial retreat. Now, however, we are told that global warming is a totally man-caused phe- nomenon and only bad things can hap- pen. Climates have always changed and temperatures have been both warmer and colder in the past. If it is still getting warmer, it is most likely a simple continuance of the trend started when the last ice age began to end. Fraudsters can manipulate the facts by choosing the time span for their data and when Al Gore and others bring their plans forward, you had better grab your wallet because they want to get your money and control you. John D. Ferguson Oshawa B oy’s battle with cancer draws attention from community Spirit and bravery of Connor Fox celebrated at fundraiser It would take a whole lot more than a bit of rain to stop little Connor Fox. This is a boy who has endured all that life can throw at him and is still standing. The two-year-old Pickering youngster is currently in the fourth and most serious stage of neurosblastoma, but there he was on Sunday, July 13, out to help wash cars at a fundraiser held in his honour. A huge crowd came by to participate making sure Connor wasn’t alone. And it’s no wonder. How can you not admire this little fight- er with a smile on his face despite all the pain and agony he has had to go through in such a short life. Even the weather conspired to try to stop Connor from having his day, but he was not to be denied. The fundraiser was supposed to take place on Saturday, July 12. But volunteers stood with umbrellas in the rain at the Remax First Building at 1154 Kingston Rd. telling those who showed up, the fundraiser was changed to Sunday. They even collected a very impressive $1,700 while asking people to come back the very next day. And on Sunday? Well, a barbecue, car wash and bottle drive combined with nice weather drew a large crowd and generous donations to the tune of about $6,000. The money is so important as it helps Connor’s family deal with the soaring liv- ing and medical costs they have to cope with as he continues his treatment. Many people from the community have come together to help and their common bond has no doubt boosted Connor’s spirit and their desire to see him recover. They just want him to have the chance to live the life of a normal boy, to be cancer- free. Among those attending on Saturday was the Pickering Rod and Gun Club, which donated a fishing rod to Connor. Pickering Councillor Bill McLean saluted those who came out and said: “I think we all agree this fundraiser was one of the best fundraisers we’ve ever seen in this community.” But the Fox family will need more help in the future. If people wish to continue to donate, they can drop off donations at the Re/Max First Building at 1154 Kings- ton Rd., at Walnut Lane. For more infor- mation, phone Coun. Community raises $6,000 for tot with cancer PICKERING -- The rain didn’t stop friends and community members from working together to collect money last weekend for a little boy battling cancer. A fundraiser scheduled for Saturday for two-year-old Connor Fox, currently in the fourth stage of neuroblastoma, a can- cer on his adrenal glands, was rained out. But volunteers stood in the rain with their umbrellas at the Remax First Building, tell- ing people it was changed to Sunday, and also accepted $1,700 in donations, said Ward 2 Regional Councillor Bill McLean. The event took place the next day and included a barbecue, bottle drive and car wash. Even Connor came out for the event and helped wash cars. More than $6,000 was raised for the family to deal with soaring medical and living costs, Coun. McLean said. The Pickering Rod and Gun club, which held a family fishing day on the Saturday, donated a fishing rod to Connor. “I think we all agree this fundraiser was one of the best fundraisers we’ve ever seen in this community,” Coun. McLean said. If people wish to donate to the Fox fam- ily, they may drop donations at the Remax First Building at 1154 Kingston Rd., at Wal- nut Lane. For more information, call Coun. McLean at 416-567-1055. Ms. Scarlett said Pickering staff has been professional with their assistance, but she feels the project has been tossed between too many employees, only delaying the process. “It’s a revolving door,” she said. “They really need to get their act together.” Tom Quinn, chief administrative offi- cer and dog owner, said he was asked by Mayor Ryan to take over the project after residents opposed the West Shore Boulevard site. The CAO understands frustrations, but doesn’t want animosity from locals since a new parking lot and lighting would have to accompany the park. “Everybody wants their privacy and the Town should not be there removing it,” he said. However, there should be light at the end of the tunnel. Now that the proj- ect is in Mr. Quinn’s hands, the process should speed up since he knows the land and is in charge of all staff. “In time, I believe that there will be one massive dog park and that there will be smaller ones in each ward,” Mr. Quinn said. “I truly believe that.” He has locations in mind, which he won’t yet divulge, but assured it won’t be in anybody’s backyard. If it’s a sim- ple exchange of land, it could open as quickly as this summer. If it will involve a large sum of money, he’ll have to bring it to council. “The latest we (will) have something is at their first council meeting,” he said. Mayor Ryan didn’t return calls by deadline. Frankly, it’s really not that complex. Judy Robinson, Durham College’s vice- president of academic, was recently rec- ognized for being one of Ontario’s top administrators by the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association. She is one of two recipients this year, the other being Dr. Jim Elliott, of Lamb- ton College in Sarnia. “I am truly honoured to receive such a prestigious recognition from a distin- guished association such as OCASA,” Ms. Robinson said. “While it is very flattering to be nomi- nated and recognized by my peers and associates, this award is a direct reflec- tion of Durham College’s collective commitment to provide an unparalleled educational experience to each and every one of our students.” Ms. Robinson received the award in honour of her dedication to the school’s success and her administrative perfor- mance. Criteria includes leadership, consis- tent professionalism, significant out- comes and demonstrated support for the mission and strategic direction of the association. “I’d like to extend my sincere congrat- ulations to Judy on this well-deserved award,” said Don Lovisa, Durham Col- lege president. “Through her continued efforts to create seamless pathways and bridg- ing opportunities between colleges and universities, she demonstrates our man- date to provide our students with qual- ity learning experiences and support in finding avenues to good jobs and pro- ductive citizenship.” Since joining Durham College as a nursing professor in 1991, Ms. Robinson has helped create links between the col- lege and the University of Ontario Insti- tute of Technology, along with other post-secondary institutions including Griffith University in Australia. Along with teaching, Ms. Robinson has held numerous administrative positions at the college including being program co-ordinator of nursing programs, asso- ciate dean of the school of health and human services and an adjunct assistant professor with UOIT’s faculty of health sciences. She took on the role of vice-president academic, in May 2008. The association is a voluntary organi- zation that supports and promotes the interests and needs of the province’s community college administrators while advocating professionalism, excellence and learning for the betterment of the community college system. Toronto Wildlife Centre comes through BY KRISTEN CALIS kcalis@durhamregion.com PICKERING -- A Pickering resident who feared for an injured mourning dove in her backyard can finally take a breath. Mary Wells wrote a letter to the editor last week when she wasn’t able to get any help for a dove with an bad wing in her back- yard, which had been there since July 4. “We have called every number we could find with no success,” she said in the letter. But when the News Advertiser con- tacted her later in the week, she happi- ly announced the Toronto Wildlife Cen- tre, which the City gives grants to, came through for her. She said a number of different animal ser- vices throughout Durham Region couldn’t help her, but a local vet told her to contact TWC. When she did, staff told her how to handle the bird and gave her directions to their location and she took the bird there. Upon arrival, staff took the dove and told Ms. Wells they’d let her know when the bird would be released back into the wild. They also gave her a reference number to check on the bird. Ms. Wells thinks it’s important to look out for Pickering’s wildlife, however little there may be. “It was their world first before we came into it,” she said. Lindsey Brenner, supervisor of Pickering Animal Services, said in an interview, since there isn’t a Durham organization that deals with wildlife directly, the City usually tells residents with wildlife calls to contact TWC or the Ministry of Natural Resources. “Depending on the scenario, we might be able to assist,” she said. If residents need help with wildlife, they should call the customer care centre at the City at 905-420-4666. If the City can’t help, staff will direct them to the right organiza- tion. A CAT AND ITS PREY Ms. Wells, a cat owner herself, is convinced a local cat was responsible for the bird’s injury. “We are responsible pet owners; we care about the safety of our pet and of the wildlife in our neighbourhood,” she said in her letter. Pickering Animal Services encourages resi- dents to keep cats indoors or on a leash and the City’s responsible pet ownership bylaw prohibits felines from being at large. This also prevents cats from contracting diseases such as feline leukemia or getting hit by cars. In a pamphlet, staff suggests keeping cats in an indoor and stimulating environment, but to allow them to display their natural tendencies to stalk, hunt and eat their prey. For example, owners can place dry food in containers with holes just big enough for one kibble to escape, or they can sim- ply place food in a variety of locations throughout the home. Summer Camps Summer Camps and and BirthBirthday Parday Partiesties Ajax athlete off to represent Canada at World Cup in the Czech Republic BY BRAD KELLY bkelly@durhamregion.com AJAX -- Stephanie Gallant has her short- term, and long-term, plans already laid out. In the long term, upon graduation from Pickering High School in 2011, she is off to Illinois State University, where she has already committed to a four-year softball scholarship to play catcher for the Red- birds. In the short term, the Ajax resident is off to Prague in the Czech Republic from Aug. 10- 16 to represent Canada at the Easton Foun- dation Youth World Cup, featuring the very best 16-year-old softball players from 12 countries. “When (the manager) told me, I was speechless,” she said of being informed she had been named to Team Canada. “I was so excited. I’m still really excited talking about it.” And just what will be the most exciting part? “Probably stepping out on the field the first time and getting a chance to play for your country,” she says without hesitation. “It’s been my dream to do that, so I’m real- ly excited. I’ve never had the opportunity to do that before.” The 16 year old progressed through a try- out camp held in Oakville at the end of May that attracted more than 130 players from Ontario and Quebec. From that pool of tal- ent, only three players were selected for the Canadian team, with similar tryouts in Sas- katchewan and British Columbia rounding out the roster. Other countries competing at the World Cup include China, Czech Republic, Domin- ican Republic, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Russia, South Africa, Venezu- ela and Zimbabwe. As for her long-term academic and ath- letic future, Illinois State won out over other schools she visited in the midwest. “They have a great softball program and the coaches are amazing,” she says. “You have to feel comfortable at a school if you’re going to live there for four years. The city, the environment, I really liked it, so I said, why not.” She got a little glimpse of life away from home recently, suiting up with a Midland Magic team in the United States comprised of Gallant and some players from Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois. A showcase tourna- ment in Florida in December of last year led to her inclusion on the team. She had to write her final high school exams early in order to tour with the team for three weeks in Indiana and Colorado. “I loved it,” she says of the experience. “I was living in a real small town. It was fun. I got to play ball almost every day for three weeks.” This past weekend at the provincial cham- pionships in Windsor with her Bramp- ton club team, Gallant and her teammates booked a spot in the Canadian champion- ships later this month in Oakville. Despite dropping the final 1-0 to Kitchener, the team will be off to the nationals as both teams reaching the gold medal game advanced.newsdurhamregion.comNews Advertiser • July 16, 200914 AP Sports Brad Kelly Sports Editor bkelly@durhamregion.com newsdurhamregion.com TRACK AND FIELD Felicien finishes ahead of Lopes-Schliep in Rome ROME, ITALY -- The European battle between 100m hurdlers Perdita Felicien and Priscilla Lopes-Schliep ended Fri- day in Rome, Italy at the Golden Gala track-and-field meet. This time, for the first time in three races overseas, it was Pickering’s Fel- icien besting Whitby’s Lopes-Schliep. Felicien posted a season best mark of 12.70 to finish in fourth place in a race won by American Dawn Harper in a time of 12.55. Lopes-Schliep finished sixth in a time of 12.76. Earlier during the tour of Europe, Lopes-Schliep came out ahead in a couple of encounters, finishing third in 12.78 at the Bislett Games in Norway, while Felicien was fifth in 12.85. At Ath- letissima in Switzerland, Lopes-Schliep was third in 12.64 and Felicien 5th in 12.71. The two are working toward the World Championships in Germany from Aug. 18-19. BASKETBALL Tyler McGarrity of Ajax among new recruits to Durham College OSHAWA -- The Durham College men’s basketball team has added some size with the hope of improving on last season’s 16-4 record. Lords head coach Desmond Rowley has added Tyler McGarrity, of Ajax, and a pair from Brampton, Mckasey Samuel and Ryan Frazer, to the 2009-10 lineup. McGarrity is a 6-foot-5 guard/for- ward who comes to Durham with plenty of post-secondary basketball experi- ence. He spent the 2006-07 season in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Associa- tion with the St. Clair Saints. In half a season with St. Clair, he averaged 14.3 points per game, including a career high 41 points in a single game. Prior to joining the Saints, McGar- rity played 21 games in 2004-05 with the University of Windsor Lancers. A gradu- ate of Markham High School, McGarrity was his high school team MVP and the York Region player of the year for the Markham Marauders. “Tyler will bring size and experience to our team,” said Rowley. “Through past experience, he has shown he can do the job and we’re looking forward to having him on our team this season.” SOFTBALL Gallant has future planned RON PIETRONIRO / METROLAND AJAX -- Stephanie Gallant will represent Canada at the Eastern Foundation Youth World Cup softball tournament. Con- dolyn Mgt 905 428-9766 Jamil Elawar In loving memory of a compassionate husband, father, grandfather and friend You will never be forgotten, even though it has been 6 years, it feels as though we have just lost you. The tears roll down in your memory and our hearts still ache, but we know you are still with us. Time has not healed the pain, but we are comforted by your closeness to us. Your image is always in front of us at home, and we still feel your love. In our hearts we feel you, and in the faces of our family we see you, you are the light that shines in all of us. We hear your voice, we feel your presence and we see your smile. Your 6 children miss you immensely, and we think of you often with love. We fondly remember the times we used to sit and talk, and now we can only talk about you. You have given us the strength to carry on and we use the lessons of love, caring and respect you taught us every day. We carry your name with pride and we don't want you to worry about us. While we miss you so much, we will always be the kids you brought up with so much love. You taught us to be honest and kind, that life was full of possibilities, but most of all, you showed us how to be compassionate, strong and devoted. We are loved by our Mom, and with you being around us. You will never be forgotten. We will always honour you by sharing with others your memory. God Bless You, Endless Love from All of Us.
