ploy of F. L. Green as butter maker.
G. Russell, who has been trilling
with F. L. Green, returned to his home
on Wednesday.
Miss Edith P. Law, of Pickering,
spent a fewd ays with friends here.
The'school concert held here in the
school house op Friday evening last
was very well attended. It is needless
to say everyone present was well satis-
tied. with the program. M. Gleeson
acceptably filled the,position of chair•
man. Too much praise cannot be
given to the teacher, Miss Georgie
\-anvitlkenburgh,, for the efficient
planner in which she had all the child-
ren trained. The • parts of Messrs.
Ward, Willson, Phillips, Bewick and
Law were heartily received. by the
audience. At the close of the pro-
gram Santa Claus appeared and strip-
ped the tubas tree of its presents to
the young folk. The proceeds amount-
ed to about 820 which will help to
rlakea library for the puhlie school.

This town is favored with another
small -pox sr:are.' It appears that a
family named Hancock brought what
was supposed to he chicken -pox, but
what was really a mild type of small-
pox here with them. They all had
the disease, but it. appeared.to . be no
worse than chicken -pox, so they did
not call•the doctor. ..From them Mrs.
Hiscott's family contracted the conta-
gion, and another family is also said
to be suffering too. The doctors
were somewhat in doubt for a day or
as to what the trmrblc was, but soon
decided the point and took steps to
to prevent any further spread. In

— On .Friday last while Joseph
Lockwood was assisting W. Pow-
ell threshing clover at•the farm
of Mr. Willis on the base -line,
Whitby township the belting
caught his arm which passed be-
tween the belt and an 8 -in. pulley
whereby he sustained a compound
fracture of the , arm below the
elbow, both bones -hieing broken.
Besides the fracture, his arm was
severely bruised. Dr. Bateman
attended to the injuries which
are.doing as well as can be expec-
ted, but he. will be laid off work
for some time.,

boio Railway, nearly= opposite his
own door, at Norway on Satur-
day night, Richard Rose, manu-
facturer, of •'Norway,_ was run
down and narrowly a. -caped death
Rose resides near \Voodbine-aveu•-
n on the King -ton road, and
failed' to notice a 'westbound car
coming (down the grade. I -Ie was.
carried for some •distance on the
fender, and rolled over and over
until his body was wedged under
the trucks of the czar. It was
found nec'ssary to jack up the cat!
