Councillor Don Quick said "A commercialfa- cility is still profitable to the Township because we still collect through taxes." He said it will provide what many people in the Township are still wanting, "more ice". Apr. 28th is that the `Rouge Thistle' should oecome a regular fixture! Congratulations to the members who decorated and planned the decor, the gentleman who orga- nized the bar and everyone else who was at all involved in this most enjoyaLle evening. Entertainment was mainly musical with a sing- song organized by Mr. Jan Makkreel who ac- companied the singing on a piano and also a dance by the well -endowed `ladies' and well -indulged gentlemen of the Soccer Association. The evening ended with dancing and before this, fish `n chips arrived and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Maybe next time everyone will save their `Reveille', `News of the World', etc. and wrap the refreshments up in these instead of sanitary cardboard boxes! Over 178 tickets were sold and no doubt the Soccer Association will see their way to planning another `Pub Night' sometime soon. If there is one thing we need occasionally, it's a good night out and last Friday was certainly all of that. Holy Redeemer Hockey teams chalked up another two championships Sunday to give us a grand total of five championships. This was a "Classic" beyond anyone's expectations one that will go into the "Archives" of Holy Re- deemer. Truly it's a year we'll all remember, whether it be young or old. An accomplishment such as this will be veryhard to surpass, let alone duplicate. So teams of future Holy Redeemer Clubs, "Set your sights high, cause as you know, you've got a long row to hoe"_ Hey! Those Simpsons Sears sponsored Mite A's .did it the hard way eh? How about those little guys, what a playoff group of 7 and 8 year olds we have here. With the series tied one game apiece they went into sudden death overtime in their third game. Hero of this game, I guess, if you wanted to pick out one man, would have to go to Steve W olowich who scored that overtime goal, but theyall deserve stars as far as I'm concerned right the way through to the Coach, Manager and Trainer. Keith Talbot and Donnie Perkins were other goal scorers. Oh yeh the final score was Holy Redeemer 3 , St. Boniface 2. It was just a great game. 1 Championsip number two for the day goes to our Pickering Nurseries sponsored Tyke A club who won their second straight playoff tilt over St. Boni- face, this one by a score of 4 to 3. This was another tremendous display of championship hockey , and how it shold be played. Boy, when they want to, this club could sure play hockey and I don't believe the players of St. Boniface have anything to be ashamed of as they gave it a good shot. Gary Langille, Dirk Roeter, Pat Maguire and Barry Murphy brought our boys home to victory, but, all in all, it was a tremendous team effort. You know, it's tough to lose a playoff game by one goal, but it's even tougher when you lose two playoff games in the same day by a goal each. Yeh! That's what happened to our Royal Home Improve- ment sponsored Tyke B Club who went into Sunday's game leading the series 2 to 0. Unfortunately Sunday was St. Thomas Mores' Day as they downed our boys in the first game 1 to 0 to tie up the series. This was a real good game that had the boys going all out in an attempt to tie or even win the game, but it wasn't to be so, and after eating a light supper, away they went at it again. It was Thurs. Tommy Milroy rapped in our lone marker of the contest, but gang don't feel bad about it, there's a lot of people that are real proud of the whole lot of you. This then ends another season for Holy Redeemer Hockey Clubs, but don't go away cause next week we'll give you a final wrap up of the year's opera- tion. It should make for some good reading. The Pickering Club went in full force, nine men and three women plus an enthu- siastic group of fathers, mothers and children to cheer the teams on. They also lost in full force, but had a marvellous time. The Peterborough players were as nice and friendly as can be and even had a cold buffet ready for the Pickering Team before they left for home. There will be a return match in June, the date will be published later so that any one can come to watch and cheer the home club on. Successful Dance Since the start of the year, the number of teens using the teen center has been ircreasing steadily. In order to raise some money to improve the facilities the Teen Cou-icil decides to ru;. a dar.ce for adults. The result was one of the best dances in the area for some time. It is a pity that the most pu. licity goes to the tee, alters that are the "'Ad eggs" The majority of teens are hard working young adults who can har:dle far more reslot, sitAlity than many people thick they ear.. This dance was a good example. The teens hanc, led the orgar, izatio; and ran the dance itself. This included sale of tickets; handling of the cloak roorh and rurnir,g the "refreshmei t" stand(thanks to 18 year olds being eligi,,le to do this now). Many teens gave up their Saturday afternoon to get the center ready and to prepare sandwiches for aiout t80 people who attended the dance. It must also 5e remembered that the teerz gave up "prime time" in the center to run this dance. Many people in Fickering Township have knocked the Teen Center, feeling it will oecome a haven for the '%Ad egg' types. The reverse has been the case. This dance has proved that we in this Township have some very capal)le teenagers. Without the center they would not have ,peen able to show just how capable they are. Congratula- tions to all involved. We are looking forward to your next dance.
