Precision Tune r.-..tc Care has expanded inW Canada :..:h the Ajax. Ontario, opening of it--, st of three computerized automotive --vice centers in greaer Toronto. ':rwly named franchisee Bruce Schie ;air ;:.ans "two more state cf-t!:e art :,,aliens in the city by the end of !997 and, ultimately, as many as 70 franchised centers throughout Ontario." Jay Ripley• president and CEO of North America's leading franchisor of auto care centers, says Precision Tune Auto Care is "keenly interested in expanding in Canada. Beyond Ontario, we Initially are studying opportunities in British Columbia and provinces in eastern Canada." More than 550 Precision Tune Auto Care centers currently operate throughout the United States, ]Mexico, Puerto Rico. the Bahamas, Curacao, Taiwan and Oman- with centers soon to open in Brazil. Sctue describes his initial six bay center -- located at 355 Bayly St. W., near Westney Road (two stop lights south of Highway 401 ) -- as "a super hi -tech facility featuring the more modern diagnostic and repair equipment, the best trained technicians, and a broad menu of reasonably -priced services that are performed expertly and quickly. And all the work is covered by Precision Tune's 12 -month. 20.000 kilometer warranty and is honoured at all locations in the States." The prospective master franchisee adds. "We are celebrating our opening with a variety of specials on oil changes, tune-ups, brake service, fuel injector cleaning and flush and fill. For example, we are featuring an oil change, lube and new oil filter for only $16.95." Other services include engine diagnostics, repair, component replacement and maintenance of all performance -related systems. Schie selected is originally from South Africa. The mechanical engineer relocated to London, On, with his family in 1979 as regional manager of Beaver Engineering Unlimited. After participating in Honeywell Corp's purchase of Beaver, Schie was named sales manager of Honeywell, and later became national business development manager of Landis and Gyr, Ltd. In searching for on-going challenges to satisfy his entrepreneurial interests, he began "an 18 month search for a secure business I could own and expand.' Schie selected Precision Tune Auto Care because "it is a respected, top quality organization with the best reputation in the business. I recognized too that people are holding on to their vehicles longer, which means a growing need for care and maintenance. And with most vehicles being computer -controlled, it is vital that a service center have excellent diagnostic capabilities." In each area, Schie concluded, "Precision Tune stands head and shoulders above the rest. No other chain specializes in tune-ups or other performance maintenance and repair; new car dealers are expensive and problematic, and mom and pop service stations do not have the technology or the training. Beyond which, I did not want simply to own just one center. I wanted a business I could expand. Precision Tune provides that opportunity for expansion, particularly in Canada." Schie, whose wife owns three Academy of Learning franchises- was a refrigeration engineer in Botswana before moving to Canada. He earned his engineering degree at Durban University in South Africa and a business degree from Western University, London, ON.
