Hundreds of public and Catholic school teachers planned to rally in front of the constituencv offices of Durham's five MPPs late Fri- day afternoon to send them the message, "These cuts are hav- ing an impact in our schools," says Jenifer Cormier, president of the Durham Women Teach- ers Association. "The Provincial govern- ment's election platform say- ing classrooms would not he affected by funding cuts hasn't turned out to he true. Classes are being affected in any num- ber of ways," says Pat Jermey, president of the Ontario Sec- ondary School Teachers Feder- ation District 17. .But, trustees not Tories are to blame, Durham ('entre MPP Jim Flaherty says. "I find it very difficult to accept that the board can't off- set a very modest (seven -per cent) reduction outside the classroom ... (Trustees) need to look harder, work harder." Consequently, in the interests of the people of Pickering and to clarify the actual details of the proposed agreement, PACT is requesting coun- cil to make public now the entire contents of the proposed agreement between Metropolitan Toronto and Pickering. If full disclosure is made now, the people of Pickering will be able to judge whether or not this will be a sound deal for the Pickering taxpay- ers and their environment. Earth Day was celebrated internationally in 1990, when 200 million people took part in Earth Day events and activities in 141 countries. Among them were two million Canadians. Since then, support has grown nation wide. Playing against older and more experienced competition didn't hinder the efforts of the Pickering squad which posted a record of one win, one tie and one loss in preliminary play and, in the final, came agonizingly close to pulling off an upset. The Pickering juniors played the Mariposa debs in the championship game, dropping a 4-3 decision. Mariposa scored the winning goal in the final minutes. Edwards, Robyn Sharpe and Lisa Mountain were the Pickering goal scorers. Cara Clements had two assists and Erin Baldry one. That's because one of the office's emphasis is on family care. "A lot of the problems I encounter are problems carried over from childhood. A patient is given a consultation, which will then be followed by a complete examination. Any findings are then discussed with the patient, and, if necessary, a schedule of appointments is begun to correct any problems. "The patients ultimately make the decision on how much care they want," explained Dr. Franko. One of the important factors with Chiropractic care is the emphasis on healing the body without the use of medications. The emphasis is to feel more balanced, less stressed and more energetic as a result of the visits to the clinic. Visits are augmented by educational brochures and videos explaining procedures and the benefits of the treatment. Exercise and nutritional counselling are also included. Essentially, the spine protects the spinal cord, supports the hips and shoulders, serves as an attachment to the muscles and supports the head and ribs. If even slightly out of sorts, the spine can hinder any of these areas' functions. 'Mat's why it's important to maintain a healthy spine. That's long been known by athletes. Uxbridge trustee Faith Neumann introduced a motion at Wedricsolav niolit's budoet meetino to shave S686 off trustees' annual honorariums of' S13,600. Having already approved S15 mil- lion in widespread spending cuts for this year -- which include the elimina- tion of outdoor education and front- line counselling for troubled students as well as a decrease in educational assistant,; for special -needs student-,; -- trustees were urged by Ms. Neumann to "lead by example". However. trustees voted 9-3 to postpone the decision until all trustees are present for a vote. (Two were absent. althouLlh all were notified prior to the meeting the issue would be raised, said Nis.
