PICKERING -- The Pickering and
Darlington nuclear stations could be
shutdown by the end of the month if
unionized Ontario Hydro workers
decide to strike.
And, that could mean power outages
in Ajax and Pickering, because 60 per
cent of the utility's power comes from
its five nuclear generating stations.
"There's no question there will be
power outages," says Ontario Hydro

Members of the Power Workers'
Union began voting last Monday on
hydro's final contract offer and balloting
will take about four weeks. The union's
bargaining committee is recommending
its members reject the contract.
"Yes we are making plans to shut
down nuclear stations if the PWU
appears likely to strike," Mr. Young
says.
"We have to have the units in a safe
shutdown state on the day the PWU
withdraws its services. They have to be
safely shutdown," he adds.

Town directs staff to bring in

By MARIANNE TAKACS
STAFF RFPORTFR
PICKERItiG -- The layoff of firefighters to save
about $600,000 was among the measures being
considered by Town councillors as they began
their budget deliberations last week.
Councillors have directed Pickering's depart-
ment heads to present them with 1996 budgets at
90 per cent of last year's levels in order to offset
increasing costs and permit them to pass a budget
that will require no increase in taxes.
The layoff of Town of Pickering firefighters was
one method recommended to help achieve that
goal.
However, no final decisions will be made until
the budget goes to Council for approval later this
month.
Councillors were somewhat less than enthusias-
tic about a suggestion from Mayor Wayne Arthurs

rate) of 2.9 per cent from 1996 to 1998.
The levy would pay for the $2.9 million
Pickering spent in 1994 and 1995 to fight
against the opening of the proposed EEI 1

existing Brock West dump.
Or, a smaller levy could he imposed for
a longer period.
The 2.9 per cent levy would cost the

Speakers vent anger
at Golden Report
during public meeting
DURHAM — It was open season
on the Golden Report in Whitby
Friday afternoon.
A panel travelling across the
Greater Toronto Area to get com-
ments on the Golden Report hs-
tened as speakers used the opportu-
nity at the Durham Region head-
quarters to rip the document. The
four -member panel was to hear
from 19 speakers about the Golden
Report on reforming municipal gov-
ernment.
Among the 51 recommendations
in the report are eliminating the five
regions and replacing it with a
Greater Toronto Council, pooling a
portion of business taxes and imple-
menting the Actual Value Assess-
ment system.
"The present two-tier system is
working well. A tune-up is
required, but there is no need for a
complete overhaul," Durham
Regional Chairman Jim Witty
said.
Speaking for all five regional
chairmen in the GTA, Mr. Witty
said some recommendations in
Golden's report "would result in
horrendous additional costs to the
taxpayer."
One recommendation supported
is the "immediate and desperate
need for assessment reform" and it
should be done in Metro first, he
said.
Figures from Durham Region
indicate residential property taxes
would increase between $250 and
$600 per household, Ashburn resi-
dent Arthur Murcott said.
"Additional tax costs in this frag-
ile economy cannot be sustained by
our families, seniors, business own-
ers and industry. We risk creating
further business bankruptcies, mort-
gage defaults and increases in
unpaid municipal taxes," Mr. Mur-
cott said.
The Whitby and the Oshawa and
District Chamber of Commerce, and
the Ajax -Pickering Board of Trade
each made submissions. In a joint
press release Friday, the three busi-
ness groups announced "their uni-
fied rejection" of the Golden
Report.
The groups want local govern-
ment "accessible and close to the
public", taxes spent in the area
where collected (no pooling of edu-
cation taxes),
and increasing
businesses taxes
would have a
"substantial and
negative impact
on business in
the Region".

Durham police truck safety
blitz finds more unsafe rigs
PICKERING — Seven drivers were
hit with safety-related fines after almost
half of transport trucks inspected during
surprise police road checks this week
were ordered off local roads.
As part of a recent crackdown on
truck safety, five specially trained
Durham Regional Police officers con-
ducted random inspections Thursday
and Friday in Pickering.
Nine of 19 commercial vehicles
stopped Thursday and Friday morning
(afternoon results were not available at
press time) were taken off the road for
failing to meet provincial safety require-
ments. The inspections were carried out
in the parking lot at the Metro East
Trade Centre on Brock Road.
Police charged seven drivers for oper-
ating unsafe vehicles and may lay dupli-
cate charges — the fines range between
$ 100 and $300 — against the compa-
nies which own the trucks, says Sgt.
Rick Bates of the traffic management
unit. The majority of safety flaws found

were improperly adjusted brakes and
faulty brake warning systems, says Sgt.
Bates.
All the defects could easily have been
detected during pre -trip, "walkabout"
inspections, which drivers are required
by law to carry out before a beginning a
run, he says.
"What we're finding over and over
again is that drivers just aren't complet-
ing their inspections. If they had, they
would discover these problems."
In most cases, companies sent
mechanics to repair the grounded trucks,
which were later allowed back on the
road.
The program is the first of its kind for
Durham police, which plans to continue
the surprise inspections on a permanent
basis in areas across the region, says
Sgt. Bates.
"We want to convince drivers and
(company) owners the enforcement is
there, if that's what it will take to keep
them in line," he says.

Town of Pickering wants
a piece of speeding fines
❑ Town wants to petition
Province allowing bylaw
officers to issue speeding tickets
PICKERING -- Just as local drivers are rel-
ishing the absence of photo radar, they may
have something new to contend with.
If Town council has its way,
bylaw officers will soon be enforc- rLLa
ing speed limits on Pickering roads. F
At its meeting Monday, Council
approved a motion requesting the
Province's Minister of Transporta-
tion amendment the Highway Traf-
fic '
Act to let municipalities enforce
speed limits within their boundaries.
Council believes such enforce-
ment has deteriorated due to limited
staff resources and reduced funding
to the Durham Regional Police. S
If the request is approved, strate-
gically -placed police cruisers along local roads
would be replaced by bylaw officers enforcing
speed limits and issuing fines.
Pickering will also request the Province
allow the Town keep the revenue collected
from the fines imposed, which Ward 2 Region-
al Councillor Doug Dickerson suggested could
add up to between $500,000 and $1 million
annually.

There are no winners
The pendulum in the child custody system took a huge
swing this week.
The Liberal government announced massive changes to
procedure in its budget on Wednesday. Today. it appears
the custodial parents have won the war of words and most
importantly, money.
No longer will parents paving support be given a tax
deduction and the custodial parent won't have to pay taxes
on child support payments. It is a tremendous boon to the
custodial parents, mostly women, who have been scream-
ing at legislators to change the rules. The argument was
obviously heard by Finance Minister Paul Martin.
These legislated child support guidelines will help
judges decide in the future how much money non-custodial
parents should pay, just as the status quo has guided deci-
sions made thus far. It only stands to mason, then, when the
rules change, so would the negotiated custody settlement.
If neither parent requests a change, then it's business as
usual when the new rules are in place May 1. 1997. If the
new changes can't be agreed upon by the parents. however.
then they can trot off to the courts to solve their problem~.
Of course, all this cost` money and with legal aid in
shambles, there is a good chance the custodial parent may
not want to venture into the fray again.
Who could blame a parent for sticking with the status
quo if it meant more painful and costly time spent with
lawyers" Only the lawyers stand to profit from the process.
If that's the case, nobody wins and the children are the
big loses. The same children the government is supposed
to help with these changes.
If these new measures are intended to go after 'deadbeat
parents', their sights are askew. The rules won't convince a
person who is delinquent on payments to suddenly ante up,
especially now that they no longer will enjoy a tax break.
Where is the logic? The Liberals will be touring Canada
looking for input on these proposed measures. Let them
know how you feel for the kids' sake.

Town not `kept
in the dark'
To the editor:
Contrary to a news story carried
recently in the Ajax -Pickering News
Advertiser. Ontano Hydro had no inten-
tion of keeping Pickering Council "in
the dark like mushr(x)ms" regarding the
Ad Hoc Committee Report on the Dec.
10, 1994 accident at Pickering and the
Final Report on the Exercise Pickering
'95 Report. These reports were the find-
ings of the Provincial Ministry of the
Solicitor General and Correctional
Sen -ices, whose responsibilities include
emergency planning. The ministry is,
therefore, responsible for the issuance of
copies to local stockholders and it
would he improper for us to release
these reports authored by the Province.
We will be contacting the Ministry to
ensure that Pickering Council and offi-
cials are included in any such distribu-
tion and that copies of these two reports
are forwarded as soon as possible to the
Town. As you know, we have no desire
to "keep you in the dark" and continue
to make every effort to keep the lines of
communication open between the Town
and the Picketing Nuclear Division.
Ontario Hydro has just recently
received copies and has already started
working with the Province to ensure the
findings and comments are addressed
and any deficiencies corrected.

Tile government is upset that
OPSEU has reduced its services to a
level below its projected cut of 13000-
27,000 employees.
If OPSEU wins the strike, we will
return to normal services for two years
when we can expected reduced service.
If Mike Hams wins the strike, we
will face reduced services almost right
away, starting with the new fiscal year.
Regardless, the level of service that is
annoying the public now will be the
normal level of service that is to be
expected in the future under the Harris
Common Sense Revolution.
When a workforce of 55,000 is cut
by 27,000 how many snow truck opera-
tors, jail guards, and food inspectors
will their be to provide service on a reg-
ular basis? OPSEU, like all unions, is
obliged to represent their members to
their best ability and take into account
their members' best interests. In this
case their members' best interest and the
public's best interest are served by the
same solution. This strike is a snapshot
of the future, if Mike Harris has his
way. As we sit in our in traffic jams dur-
ing a winter storm, do we want the
roads Ploughed with our taxes or do you
want a couple of bucks more in your
pocket on this week's pay cheque?
Thank God your not the victim in the
ambulance that just passed you who has
a more serious problem to ponder. Was
it worth cutting hospital beds to save
money?

Durham educators mixed
on call for fewer trustees,
stretching board boundaries
By STEPHEN SHA
STAFF REPORTER
DURHAM -- The boundaries for Durham's
public and separate school boards would stretch
eastward and 15 local trustees would lose their
jobs under a provincial task force's recommenda-
tions.
The Ontario School Board Reduction Task
Force, which was appointed last year by the pre-
vious NDP government, has publicly released its
report calling for a complete revamping of the
province's school board system.
The report recommends
revamping public, separate and
French -language school board
boundaries, which would cut in
half the current number of
boards, significantly lower the
number of trustees and cut their
salaries, pool commercial and
industrial property taxes and
overhaul the financing of school
boards.
In Durham, the boundaries
for both separate and public
school boards would be expand-
ed to include Clarington. Clar-
ington separate schools are cur -
school board — down from the current 18 —
while the number of public board trustees would
drop to 1 I from 15.
Trustees in some jurisdictions would also take
a pay cut.
Under the proposed scheme, honorariums
would range from an all-inclusive minimum of
$5,000 to a capped maximum of $20,000.
Despite the fact his is "the lowest spending
board" in the Greater Toronto Area, Durham
separate school board chairman Tom Oldman -
welcomes the proposed

rently part of the Peterbor-
ough/Victoria/Northumberland/Newcastle board,
while public schools fall under the jurisdiction of
the Northumberland/Newcastle board.
The Campbell Children's School, a special
language and speech school in Oshawa presently
overseen by the Ministry of Education and
Training, would also come under the jurisdiction
of the Durham Board of Education.
Under the proposed boundaries, student popu-
lation for Durham's public school board would
rise to 68,700 (full-time equivalency), from just
under 60,000, while the separate school board
would increase to 25,000 (full-time equivalency)
from the current 22,000.
French -language students in the region would
be taken out of the two local boards and lumped
into one of*three southern Ontario French
boards.
The task force has also recommended reduc-
ing the number of trustees in the region, public
and separate combined, from 33 to 18. Seven
trustees would represent Durham's separate
changes.
"In terms of amalgama-
tion, lowering the number of
trustees and administration,
I'm personally in favor of that
so we can put all the money
we can back into the class-
room. I realize that we do
have a (financial) problem
and we can't ignore it."
Public school board chair-
man Audrey MacLean, how-
ever, is highly critical of the
report, saying the task force
"went beyond its reasonable
mandate."
Public school board trustees
in Durham are strongly
opposed to changing existing boundaries and the
task force "chose not to listen to that," says Ms.
MacLean.
"It just doesn't make any sense. I don't see the
benefits," she says, adding that with regional
government reform and education funding cuts
on the way, "it's just too much too soon."
She says board staff is compiling a full report
on how the recommendations would affect
Durham and until then "we really don't know
how this will affect us."
MPPs have been asked to hold community
public hearings on the task force's recommenda-
tions and Education Minister John Snobelen, in
his 'tool kit' announcement Wednesday, said he
plans to look closely at the report in the coming
weeks.
If implemented by the provincial government,
the proposed boundary and representation
changes would not take effect until next year's
municipal election.
Durham board rapped for arts camp fees
By STEPHEN SHAW
STAFF REPORTER
DURHAM — A $125 regis-
tration fee for a five-day, visual
arts camp to be offered by the
Durham Board of Education
this summer is unfair to chil-
dren from lower-income fami-
lies, two Oshawa trustees say.
The art program to be
offered to students Grades 4
and up received a thumbs down
review from Oshawa Wards 5
and 6 Trustee Ken Ridge at
Monday night's standing com-
mittee meeting.
Mr. Ridge said the fee vio-
lates the basic principles of the
public school system.
"The public school board
doesn't just provide programs
to those who have the money.
One hundred and twenty-five
dollars may not be much, but
you tell that to a welfare mom,"
said Mr. Ridge, whose position
was supported by Oshawa
Wards 1 and 2 Trustee Kath-
leen Hopper.
In response to a decision to
no longer offer the nine -day
summer arts program at Camp
White Pine in Haliburton, the
board is launching its own
summer arts day camp, to be
offered at local schools starting
this summer.
While "philosophically I def-
initely don't support (the fee),"
Ajax Wards 1 and 2 Trustee
Colleen Jordan said, "I can
rationalize it by saying we are
borrowing from Peter to pay
Paul. We are gathering some
revenue that might not have
otherwise come to us which
may ultimately benefit all," she
said.
"If this is the way we have to
go, then so be it."
Based on 40 campers per
school, each individual camp is
expected to generate about
$2,150 in profits, which would
be put back into the host
school's budget.
Some trustees suggested that
a financial subsidy of some sort
— a bursary or scholarship —
be set aside to help students
who can't afford the registra-
tion fee.
"Yes, for sonic children it is
going to be out of the question
and perhaps once it's up and
running maybe we could look
at that (financial help)," said
Pickering Ward 1 Trustee Ruth
Ann Schedlich.
Whitby Trustee Patricia
Bowman justified the registra-
tion fee, saying "we simply
cannot afford to do things the
way we have in the past."
Those who can afford the pro-
gram should have the opportu-
nity to attend it, she reasoned.
Staff was directed to look at
ways to help out children
whose families may have trou-
ble paying the fee.

New initiative launched to combat racism
By STEPHEN SHAW
STAFF REPORTER
DURHAM — Unlike the marked,
regional boundaries that divide commu-
nities, cultural boundaries are not so
clearly visible.
Yet, unfortunately, they do exist.
Organizers of a six-month campaign
aimed at promoting cultural unity in
Durham Region are attempting to
expose those barriers so they can be bro-
ken down to eliminate racial discrimina-
tion and division.
The 'Peace and Community Harmer
ny' Open Forum, sponsored by the Mus-
lim Educational Cultural Association
(MECA) of Ontario and supported by
the Durham Board of Education, kicked
off events Sunday at the Ajax Commu-
nity Centre with a celebration of Eid
Day, the start of the Muslim new year.
""Rtere are a lot of stereotypes floating
around and there are problems within
sonic of our communities. This program
is designed to create positive race rela-
tions," says Roland Rutland, a member
of of the forum's organizing committee.
Awareness and public education is
one of the best ways to break down
those stereotypes which exist among dif-
ferent community groups, "and that is
what we are trying to do," explains
MECA president Mobeen Khaja.
By including young children, youths
and adult residents of Durham in the var-
ious events and programs to be held,
organizers are striving "to foster a
greater understanding
and awareness of the
need for peace and
community harmo-
ny" among the vary-
ing cultures in the
region, says Mr.
Khaja.
While many
groups in Durham Mobeen
have taken small Khaja
steps to improve rela-
tionships among ethnic communities,
"it's very difficult to change people's
perspectives," Mr. Khaja says. "We are
Wing and I believe if we work hard we
can achieve these goals.-

very hard for our children who were
born and raised here, as they are unable
to understand the rationale for this unfair
portrayal. It is my belief that sincere peo-
pie in our society will join us to change
this image in the hearts and minds of all
Canadians."
Among the initiatives included as part
of the forum to address race relations
and cultural understanding at the school
and community level is a youth confer-
ence planned for Pickering High School
April 25.
Throughout the coming months,
organizers will stage a variety of con-
ferences and workshops focussing on
racial themes. Among the events are
a performing art presentation to com-
memorate United Nations Day for the

Durham says no to GTA council
DURHAM — The Region "strongly dis-
agrees" with establishing a Greater Toronto
Council (GTC) or "any provincially -initiated"
changes to municipal boundaries.
Durham council voted 26-1 Wednesday, with
five councillors absent, approving the Region's
response to the Golden Report on reforming
municipal government in the Greater
Toronto Area.
Among the 51 recommendations in
the Golden Report are abolishing the
five regional governments and replac-
ing them with a 30 -member GTC,
pooling a portion of business taxes, a
provincial review of municipal bound-
aries, and reassessing all properties
using the Actual Value Assessment
method.
With the Golden recommendations,
residential and business property taxes
in Durham would go up by S40 mil-
lion a year, but would decrease by
$452 million in Metro Toronto, a
regional staff report states.
Among the recommendations
Durham supports are a province -wide
assessment system with properties in
Metro being reassessed first, the
Province to pay all costs for welfare
and children's services, and eliminat-
ing the duplication of services

By AL RR'ETT
SPORTS REPORTER
AJAX — Not even a chest cold
complete with several nights of
coughing could keep Ajax's Nicholas
Farrell from fulfilling a dream.
The 20 -year-old Ajax Boxing Club
member had to fight through illness
as well as his opponents in order to
qualify for the 1996 Summer Olympic
Games in Atlanta
at the Tournament
of the Americas
`A hich concluded
last week in
Guaynabo. Puerto
Rico, a suburb of
San Juan.
"I got sick in
Florida (during a
training camp)
and it started to Nicholas Farrell
affect me in the
ring," says Farrell, who arrived back
in Ajax earlier in the week. "My
strength kept fluctuating. It got worse
every day, but I wasn't allowed to
take any medication for it.
"But, when it was finished I was
very happy about it. I've been dream-
ing about (competing at the
Olympics) for the longest time and I
made it."
Competing in the light mid-
dleweight division (71 kilos, 156
vpounds), Farrell downed Ernest
Barnes of the Cayman Islands in his
first fight on Feb. 28. The Ajacian
won in a second -round RSC (referee
stopped contest).
In the pivotal second bout on March
1, with a victory earning him an
Olympic berth in his weight class,
"Parrell outlasted Carl Grant of
Jamaica for a 16-10 decision.
Still reeling from the effects of the
cold, Farrell contemplated withdraw-
ing from his third bout on March 2. It
Oras an essentially meaningless
encounter against Puerto Rican Jose
Quinones, as Farrell had already
earned his way to the Olympics.
However, he went ahead with the
fight, but after being hit with an eight
count in the third and final round,
Farrell's corner threw in the towel to
end the bout.
'' "I was really sick and I really didn't
want to fight. But, it was a good expe-
rience and I know what to do the next
time," says Farrell, the current
Canadian amateur champ of his
weight class.
The Tournament of the Americas
included boxers from the Barbados.
Bahamas, St. Lucia, Jamaica,
Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Guyana,
Grenada and Canada. The U.S., as
the host of the '96 Olympics, wasn't
required to have boxers qualify.
Cuban boxers were also not present
at the qualifier.
Besides Farrell, six other Canadian
boxers qualified for the Olympic
Games.
Next up for Farrell is the Pre -
Olympic boxing tournament in
Atlanta next month. He's one of two
Canadian fighters invited to the high-
calibre tournament.
He'!] also be headed to two interna-
tional competitions, one in Liverpool.
England and another in Greece, in
May. In the run up to the Olympics,
members of Canada's Olympic
Boxing Team will participate in a
training camp in Lodgepole. Alberta
in June, just prior to taking flight for
Atlanta.
Ring action
An Ajax major bunny players skates past an
Oshawa checker during action at the Ajax Silver
Ring Ringette Toumamament last weekend. This
contest was played at Village Arena. Many area
teams as well as those from as far away as
Sudbury took part in the event.

Bantam Raiders have backs against
AJAX-PICKERING —
The Ajax -Pickering
Raiders Julie's Esso minor
bantam `AAA' rep hockey
team has its back against
the wall in its playoff
series with the York-
Simcoe Express.
The Raiders trail the
four -point series 3-1,
thanks to a loss and a tie
with the Express last week,
putting Ajax -Pickering in a
position where two consec-
utive wins are a must to
take the first-round of the
Eastern 'AAA' series.
In game one, the Raiders
got off to a quick start with
a breakaway goal by Brian
Hughes in the fust minute,
followed by a late -period
goal by Jeff Miles.
York-Simcoe got back in
the contest with a lone
goal in the second frame to
make the score 2-1. Ajax -
Pickering seemed to have
the game in hand at 3-1
after Tim Despres' goal
early in the third period,
but the Express roared
back.
They cut the lead again
Durham Devils
Roller Hockey
League expands
DURHAM — The Durham Devils Roller Hockey
League is set to expand this year and will also become
part of a new Metro -wide league in the '96 season.
The Ajax -based league hopes to field as many as 38
teams from novice (eight years) to an adult open divi-
sion. Last year, the Devils attracted 300 players and, in
tournament action, won two championships.
As well, the Devils — a founding member of the
Ontario Regional Roller Hockey Association — will be
part of a new Metro Division League for all-star calibre
players. Other teams will come from Pickering,
Scarborough, Oakville and Mississauga.

Williamson at 683-0400 or, to register, drop into Source
for Sports at 32 Church St., Ajax.
to one after a rebound was
knocked past Raider goalie
Dave Nortes, and tied the
game 3-3 with just more
than three minutes to go.
But, York-Simcoe scored
the winning goal with just
more than a minute to play
for a come -from -behind 4-
3 victory.
Faced with elimination
with another loss, Ajax -
Pickering fought back for a
3-3 tie in game two.
York-Simcoe had a 2-0
lead in the second frame
when Andrew Hanna
wall
jump-started the Raiders
with a snapshot goal after
taking Hughes' pass, mak-
ing it a 2-1 game.
Miles tied it 2-2 on a
third -period breakaway
goal. The Express looked
to have the series won as
they beat Raiders' goal -
tender Paul Guthrie with
just over two minutes to
go. But, with Guthrie
pulled for an extra attack-
er, Sean Docherty deflect-
ed a pass for the tying
marker with 51 seconds
left for a 3-3 draw.

STOP BURNING MONEY

We ... SAVE IT
CA'er 26 Years Experlewce
3465 Brock Rd., RR#1 Brougham (905) 619-9062
Keep warm this winter and cool this
summer with Knightswood Comfort Servic
Don Russell believes in hard work and
getting the best deal for his customers.
That's why for the past 26 years he's built
up a trusted reputation for his work
installing and maintaining the best in
heating and air conditioning systems.
For the past two years he's had his own
company operating in Durham Region and
his many years of expertise have been a
welcome relief to those looking for
someone who treats them right.
Knightswood Comfort Service has
customers all over Ontario especially in
cottage country. That's because even when
they move out of Durham, they still ask
Don to do their work for them.
"I save my customers money in two
ways," says Don. "First, I buy my units
right from the distributor and sell them at
dealer prices. Second, I operate from my
own home keeping my overhead low and
passing those savings on to my customers"
The units Don buys from the distributor
are from Janitrol, a company that has been
in business since 1890. The second largest
company in the U.S., Janitrol offers top
quality equipment at very competitive
prices.
"Janitrol may not be as well known as say
Lennox or Carrier because they don't
advertise," explains Don. 'But that's why
they can keep their costs lower."
Don does all of the installations as well as
any service and repair work. He will also
install oil, gas and propane furnaces as well
as water heaters.
He does conversions from electric to gas
or oil and any ductwork that is needed. His
company also specializes in boiler systems
for both commercial and residential
customers.
"Knightswood also does any plumbing
work you need from small jobs to bathroom
installations," says Don.
With the warm weather not to far off,
you'll be thinking of staying cool and when
it comes time for a new air conditioning
system you should call Don.
He carefully examines your home to
ensure that you get the right size unit that
will efficiently cool your home at the lowest
cost possible.

The Professionals at Three Bears Autobody
are dedicated to saving you money
A Three Bears Autobody technician works on a 1958 Pontiac
Stratochief in the shop's high tech paint baking spray booth.
The spring season is just around the corner, a time when people traditionally
think about repairing the dents and scratches to their car that have accumulated
over the winter. this brutally cold winter has kept the slush and salt to a
minimum, but the first spring car wash will reveal those small nicks that have
<' turned into rust blisters and those parking lot door swipes that are really
noticeable on a clean car. The staff at Three Bears Autobody can transform that
worn out look into a gleaming new vehicle that looks like it just came out of the
factory, but the timing is very important.
Would you expect to pay more for a convertible in June than December? Or a
. pair of skis in December, rather than July'? The same logic applies to the auto
" body business. When everybody brings in their car on the first balmy day, you
can expect to pay more, but if you beat the rush, chances are, your body shop will
give you a better deal. So if you are a smart shopper, you will bring in your car to
Three Bears Autobody, before the crowd. To give you an extra incentive to
come in early, we are giving away a free 20" color TV in the month of March.
Come in for a no -obligations free estimate on your vehicle and fill out a ticket on
the color TV draw to be held on March 31/96.
Three Bears Autobody Inc., located at 282 !Monarch Ave., Unit 20B in Ajax,
is a shop with traditional values. -We offer a complete range of services ranging
from collision work, rust repair, restoration to complete paint jobs;' says Kcvin
Bond. "And it's all done by qualified and licensed staff who take extra care to do
the job right. Our customers deserve and expect satisfaction when they entrust
their vehicle to us, so we take that special care to ensure that we meet or exceed
their expectations:'
With great service usually comes a large price, but the staff at Three Bears
believe it's better to give the customer value because they want their customer for
a lifetime.
"Our reputation will be earned through hard work, one customer at a time,"
says Kevin. "But we are hopeful that a happy customer will recommend us to
their friends when we do a good job on their vehicle."
To enhance value, Three Bears offers free rental cars for most insurance
collision claims, or we pay the deductible on your claim, subject to certain
conditions. Senior citizens may request a 10% discount on all work no matter
how big or small the job. they also provide a shuttle service.
From a complete collision repair to a minor paint touch up, visit Three Bears
Autobody, or call 619 -BEAR (2327). Come in for a no -obligation free estimate
and don't forget to fill out a ticket for that colour TV.
