Board opposes junior
kindergarten program
FROM PAGE 1 School Board introduced
this fall and next, with all
schools offering junior
kindergarten by 1997-98.
Tk board has repeatedly
opposed the introduction of
the costly program. It will
cost almost $4.3 million
just to renovate schools for
junior kindergarten, $3.19
million of which is to come
from the Ministry of Edu-
cation and Training.
The Durham Region

junior kindergarten years
ago in an effort to woo new
students.
The government recently
axed a pilot project which
would have created a
'seamless' day for four -
and five -year-olds by com-
bining day care and junior
and senior kindergarten
programs at schools.
Durham's separate board
was among the boards
planning to introduce that
program this fall.

Solicitor General Bob Runciman
announcad changes to the Police Ser-

"We're very supportive of this,"

they should receive it. -
Although the changes v6rere passed
on Wednesday, officers won't actual-

sometime next week when the change
is printed in the Ontario Gazette.
The new bullets are expected to
cost S500.000. but it's anticipated
most of that expense will be recov-

ammunition.
Ontario is the last province to
switch over to hollow -point ammuni-

Let me explain. I received in a

I have recently written Mr.

was a form letter in return. I would
like to let you know that I have been
working since 1993 and have also
contributed to these cheques. I do
not enjoy being on unemployment
and hate hearing "you're over quali-

sincerely hope that others, such as
the person who responded in your
newspaper to my original letter, that
you never have to find out what U.I.

that I can look back at this and say
the government helped me build a

The Society points to statistics
which indicate 74 per cent of Cana-
dian women are alive and well five
years after the diagnosis of breast
cancer. If detected very early, the
five-year survival rate can exceed 90
per Cent.
The Breast Cancer Society was
formed four years ago Its mandate is
to fund Canadian research into
detection, treatment and prevention
of breast cancer, and to ultimately
find a cure.

Three Bears Autobody
They're new but their good
and this family business will
make your car or truck look
better than ever.
Three Bears Autobody
Inc., located at 282 Monarch
Ave, Unit 20B in Ajax, is a
three way partnership between
Kevin Bond, father-in-law
Chou Jin and Chou's son John.
Together they have
created a business that
stresses quality workmanship
and competitive prices.
"We offer a complete
service from insurance
collision work and rust repair
to restorations and complete
paint jobs." says Kevin. "All
done by fully qualified and
licensed staff who take special
care to do the job to the
customer's satisfaction. Our
body man has more than 20
years experience and our
painter has more than 10
years."
The front of the shop is
deceiving because in the back
you'll find a work area that
can accommodate up to 18
vehicles.
It's equipped with the
latest high tech rack for
straightening unibodies and a
new combination spray and
baking booth with a full down
draft system for the best paint
job possible.
"We use only the best
quality paint during our two
stage system," says Kevin.
"First a base coat is applied
that matches the factory
specifications. The vehicle
identification number is
punched into the computer and
the proper formula is given for
your particular car."
Next a clear finish is
applied to give it that factory
shine.
Three Bears also does
collision work and Kevin says
when you're given an estimate
they stick to it and deliver
your repaired car when they
say they will. They also back
up all of their work with a 2
year guarantee.
Take advantage of their
August special of 20% off a
complete paint job.

TOP OF THE WORLD - POLAR BEAR -
and framed for $495.00
You'll find Carl Brenders in many
homes in Durham Region. His art that is,
and for those who appreciate this wildlife
artist he'll be visiting Z -Art Gallery
Wednesday, September 20th.
Gallery owner Mike Jaensch says at
least three times a year he has
exhibitions featuring well known artists
and is pleased that Brenders will be
stopping at his shop during his Canadian
tour.
'Tie is the biggest seller at the gallery
and its great to have him come here," he
says. "He has a big following in the area
and people will have an opportunity to
meet the man, ask him questions and
have their art autographed."
From 5 to 7 p.m. Carl will sign on the
glass of up to three of his prints you bring
in, regardless of where you purchased
them.
But Mike says you'll have an
opportunity to see more than 20 of his
earlier and current works all of which
will be on display and available for sale
including Top Of The World - Polar Bear
'featured above.
The print will be selling for $355.00
and framed for $495.00. There is no
deadline for ordering this limited edition
print but keep in mind only 3500 are
available.
Barn in Belgium, Blunders like many
other wildlife artists, spends a great deal
of time getting their inspiration from our
1995 Cart Brenders
by Cart Brenders is available tor S355.00
North American wildlife.
Like Robert Bateman, he makes
people aware of the beauty of nature and
that it must be preserved if we are to
- enjoy it for many generations to come.
This is the sixth year in business
for Z -Art Gallery located at 1900 Dixie
Rd. at Finch Avenue in the Loeb
Glendale Plaza in Pickering.
Mike invites you to see the more than
400 different images to choose from by
artists such as Brenders, Bateman,
Trisha Romance, James Lumbers,
Stephen Lyman, Walter Campbell and
many more such as Group of Seven artist
A.J. Casson.
'We also do custom framing using
creative matte cutting techniques and we
use only acid free materials to preserve
the quality of the print, says Mike. "You
can also choose from hundreds of matte
colours and frame styles as well as three
different grades of glass."
There are also many different sizes of
prints in prices ranging from $60 to a few
thousand that will fit your budget and
decor.
Mike says if there is a print by
Brenders or any of your favourite artists
that are no longer in current distribution,
he will utilize his many contacts to get
you that print at the lowest possible

Step into the future at
new Whitby food court
The future of the fast food outlet has arrived in Whitby.
Pioneer Hospitality Inc., in conjunction with its partner Pioneer Food Courts
Inc., recently opened a food -court complex that features high levels of convenience.
comfort and service in an attractive, family-oriented environment.
The news is particularly r
exciting because under one roofare four of the hottest names in
the fast-food industry — Tim
Hortons, Wendy's. Pizza Hut
and New York Fries. Wendy's
and Tim Hortons each have
drive-thru windows. The
complex will soon be joined by
an ultra -modern Sunoco gas
bar featuring the latest in pay -
at -the -pump technology. The
gas bar is scheduled to open this
fall.
T h e
development is
particularly
exciting
because of its
great location.
on Consumers
Dr.. just east of
Brock St. The
complex is
located beside
the Hwy. 401 interchange and offer, .;eat access both to commuters and Oshawa
and Whitby residents.
"We are very excited because of the dynamics of this location.- says Tim
Hogarth. president of Pioneer Hospitality. Inc. -We have a great selection of food
offerings and the one-stop convenience of having a gas bar.'.
The food court has a capacity for more than 150 people in a modern. atrium -
style seating area. The complex is a smoke-free facility. strives to offer a warm and
inviting environment for customers.
-We have the advantage of a modern building design and architecture to offer
our customers, but there is more to it than that," says Hogarth. We have taken. and
will cortins to take. a lot of care in providing high levels of service. cleanlioeSM
and product qualuy to keep people coming back. -
Hogarth adds that the Whitby food -court complex will act as a prototype for
future PIonoer Hospitality food court locations. The company is a family-owned
and operated business which rum several other Tim Bretons and Wendy's locations
m southern Ontario.
