from James McCreight, beginning in 1860, to James McCreight Armsrtong,
ending in 1954.
The diaries were borrowed from James McCreight(Mac)Armstrong (grandson of
James McCreight), and his daughter Carol Wildgoose (of Markham). Mac has since
died; the diaries are now in Carol's possession.
James McCreight (1814-1895), son of Andrew McCreight,came to Upper Canada
from County Dublin, Ireland, about 1834. He was born March 6, 1814 in Ireland and
died April 19, 1895 in Cherrywood, Pickering Township and is buried in Erskine
Cemetery. He married Mary Ann Brown and they had 6 children.
As well as being a farmer, he held several official positions in Pickering Township.
Offices held were: Township Councillor (9 years), Township Reeve (3 years),
County Councillor (3 years), Justice of the Peace, School Trustee, President of the
Pickering Agricultural Society, and was a Major in the Malitia. He was also a member
of the Erskine Presbyterian Church.
His farm which, was located on Lot 30 S 1/2, Concession 3, was called ""
Cherry Wood Farm""."
