Glen Crawford -- Letters to the Editor Dear Mr. Editor: Today I spent a few hours at the Annual Sports Competition conducted by the Continuation Schools, of Pickering, Brooklin and Claremont. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the time and hasten to congratulate the boys and girls along with their teachers for the fine spirit of sportsmanship each one displayed. I did not hear a single word of complaint from any of the competitors, nor see any act of anything but the finest sportsmanshiip. Victory was taken quietly and defeat witih a smile, even in the very closest of competition. I wish particularly to congratulate our two local teachers, Miss St. John and Mr. Coates, for the very efficient way their work of planning and arranging was carried out. Their efforts were a complete success, and one event followed another with no tiresome delay. They sure must have spent a lot of time making their preparations. One of the most sporting things I have ever seen took place between two of our Juniors, in the 220 yard race. One boy who needed but one point to take the Junior Championship was running second place when, on rounding the last marker, he fell. His classmate, passing him, called, ""Come on, Pat"", slowed down and let Pat finish to third place ahead of him, and so Pat got his championship. Who says the days of good sportsmanship are dead? I had a swell day, thanks to a bunch of real sports. -- “Old Timer” 'Now that the High School and Continuation School reports are all out, it is with considerable pride that those of this community who have had an opportunity of doing so, have observed that the results obtained by the pupils of our Continuation School were considerably above the average obtained by pupils over a considerable area. All of which speaks highly of our Continuation- School teachers here, and cf course, the students. -- Pickering Continuation School – 1939-40 1. Jim Clements 22. 2. Grant Redditt 23. 3.
