HomeMy WebLinkAbout2127Article taken from the Pickering News Advertiser, 20 June, 1972. Home, home on the -moon? A "lunar lander" may be the future of sculptor Bill Lishman of Pickering. Lishman, a resident of the 7th Concession, spent "two or three years" working on the lander, which now stands in his front yard. The steel-and-aluminum model of the 'Eagle' stands about 25 feet high. As creative director for People or Planes, Lishman has adamantly refused to submit to expropriation. "There's no way they're pushing me out of here," he said "I've always lived in this area, and I want to continue doing so." Lishman, maybe earlier than most, is feeling the pinch from the airport expropriation. He had to scrap plans for extending his property when the federal project was first announced. "I'm caught in the middle," he said. "I can't put an addition on, I can't buy more land, and they won't pay me enough that I can buy another place." The Ohio Historical Society has expressed interest in buying the model, and Lishman admits it will probably be sold before any war starts on the airport project. He himself though, intends to stay. "They'll have to send the bulldozers to move me out," he says.
