Nov. 22nd 1861 Camp Rogers Upton Hill Virginia Mr. James Hubbard Dear Sir I take my pen in hand to write a few lines to you which gives me great pleasure hoping that this will find you in good health as it leaves me at present I hope you will excuse me for not writing to you before and I will thry to make it up for the future I will give you an account of my self since I left Brougham in the first place I went to Toronto and staid all night and then went to a place called Bronte next to Oakville and staid all Night the I went to Hamilton and staid all night then I went to a place called Grimsby and staid all Saturday Night Sunday and Sunday night and then went through to St Catharines to Thorold and staid all Night started in the morning for the falls seen the falls and went to a place called La Salle and staid all Night went to work for a man called Chesbrough chopping cord wood and boarded with Mr. White at the union house then went chopping wood for Mr. White left there and up to buffalo and hired for one trip up the lake and back on a steamer for 12 dollars was up to ____land and Detroit and Winsor and Noldon and back to buffalo then I went down to lasalle and went to work for Mr white for a while putting up cellar wall then went to buffalo and enlisted for a soldier Staid there about three weeks and the regiment disbanded so went back to lasalle and went to work for Mr. Smith building a barn we got the barn done and the I went to work for Mr. Burdett on Cayuga Island the island contains about 100 acres of land on the Niagara rover about 5 mile from the falls he had a peach orchard and pears and plums and cherrys and grapes and strawberries and blackberries and raspberries and apples an every thing you could" -Gf !�.-e �vu� fv�-✓�ex�e"' 2H� er�:<e1< lv e� :!b z..
