HomeMy WebLinkAbout491"Pickering News, Sept, 27, 1946. Last Member Of Pioneer Family, Joseph B. Gormley Passed The last member of one of Pickering Township's pioneer families, Joseph B. Gormley, passed away suddenly, at his home in Dunbarton last Wednesday evening. He was in his 71st year. Born south of Pickering Village, at the Lake Shore, on the farm now occupied by George Mutch he attended the Base line school. He farmed near there until about 20 years ago, when he retired to Dunbarton. His brother, Dan pre-deceased him over a year ago. Mr. Gormley had many friends in this township, and his stories of the pioneers here, that he had learned from his grandparents, were of great interest to many. He knew Pickering township and it's people, well. He was a member of the United Church. His widow, the former Elsie Morrison, survives him. The funeral was held in Erskine Church, with Rev, A. E. Holley officiating Pallbearers were. Garnet Courtice, Benj. Woods, Anthony Lawson, James Mitchell Walton Annis and Sidney Morrish. Interment was made in Erskine Cemetery. "
