According to the Pastor, Rev. B. P. Smyth, it is believed that children were playing with matches near the rear door of the hall. When the regular and volunteer fireman of the Township thought the blaze had been extinguished, Rev. Smyth said he still could smell something like smouldering embers,"" but officials disagreed. Soon after firefighters had departed, they had to be called back to put out a blaze that had rekindled. Most of the damage is to the tool shed at the rear, and in the airspace created when a lower ceiling was built to conserve heat when the building was converted from a school-house to its present use as a parish hall.
