In 1853 the first church on the present site was built. The 1886 Church, called ""the new church'', was built to replace this earlier one and was added to in 1954 and 1971. Early in the morning of Jan. 8th. 1973, Dunbarton United Church was almost completely destroyed by fire. Only the exterior walls remained. The Fairport congregation met on a regular basis since 1925 when regular services for summer visitors were conducted in the building now used as a Church Hall on Liverpool Road. Built in 1875 as a Methodist Church it finally became part of the Dunbarton Fairport Pastoral Charge after church union. During the two years it has taken to rebuild the church in Dunbarton, both congregations held services at the Fairport United Church. Now just over two years later, a new church has been built on the foundations of the old. The new structure was rededicated on Jan. 12th and both congregations amalgamated as ""Dunbarton-Fairport United Church"" under the leadership of their new minister, the Rev. Robert L. Raymont. "
