The original windows and brackets were still in place in the late 1980's. This land was originally part of the 6,400 acres given to Major John Smith in 1795 by Lieutenant Governor General John Graves Simcoe. Out of the 74,600 acres of land that made up Pickering Township, Simcoe had place[d] 18,000 acres in the hands of five people by the time he had completed his term of office in 1796.
