Our town is blessed with a chataque literary and scientific circle. Art, science and literature are
flourishing. Mrs. Hopper, whose talent in organizing and projecting matters has long since been
recognized by the inhabitants of Canada, is the prime mover of the society. Such questions as
"is your home built in the renaisiauce style of architecture or the Greco-Roman." "Have the
pictures which our young ladies execute on canvas and panels to-day the characterisitcs of the
byzantine paintings, or on what school of the masters are their principles founded." Has the
drama and the stage which were at one time monopolized by the clergy, and to which we owe
the evolution of our modern theatre, become something similar in progress to bazaars and
freaks of church entertainments, which as a writer in one of our periodicals strongly expresses
it, are inventions of the devil." These puzzle the members of the C. L. S. C.
