HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943Hand written document, affidavit of James Matthews, dated at the City of Toronto in the County of York, March 11, 1863 re property ownership. "County of York to wit I James Matthews of the City of Toronto in the said County of York, Hotel Keeper make oath and say That I was well acquainted with Peter Matthews of the township of Pickering Yoeman deceased who by deed baring date the sixteenth day of November A.D. 1836 conveyed one hundred and fifty acres of Lot number seventeen in the sixth Concession of the township of Pickering aforesaid to David Matthews. 2nd That I believe that the said Peter Matthews was eldest son and ……….. of Thomas E Matthews the original patentee of the said part of the said Lot and that I never heard the fact of this being………… of said Thomas Matthews questioned. 3rd That I lived for a number of years in the Township of Pickering at a short distance from the said lot and to the best of my recollection the said David Matthews has been in possession of said part of said Lot for over Twenty years. 4th That I know the above facts from having been intimate with the family for a number of years and having resided in this neighbourhood.
