page 1, column 4.The Late Gordon James LawFuneral services were held on Monday for one of
Pickering Village's best known citizens, in the person of Gordon James Law, who passed away
on Saturday morning at the Oshawa Hospital. He was in his 72nd year.Born in Malvern, Ont. the
son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Law, he was brought to Pickering at the age of six years.
He attended the school in the building in which he later conducted a blacksmith shop and garage
business for many years. Many remember the days when he was a blacksmith and later
converting his shop and went into the the car business. He enjoyed the village life and liked to
tell stories of past days here. He had been in poor health for several years following a stroke.
He was and adherant of the Prebyterian Church, a member of the Oddfellows Lodge and when a
younger man, manager of the famous Pickering Football Team.He is survived by his wife, the
former Mary Loretta Balsdon; also surviving is a sister in Montreal. A brother predeceased him
some years ago.Services were conducted from the McEachnie Funeral Home by Rev. A.E.
Young, Rev. David Marshall and Rev. E.G. Robinson. Interment in Erskine Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Wilfred Hunt, Garnet Courtice, Frank Prouse, Jno. Baxter, Edgar Andrew and
Charles Hutchings.
