HomeMy WebLinkAbout1308Article copied from the Globe and Mail, Tuesday, July 16, 1946, page 4.Served Pickering For 61 YearsPickering, July 15 (Special).-Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon in Whitevale United Church for Donald Robert Beaton, 85, who served as clerk of Pickering Township for 61 years. He died Saturday at his home in Whitevale where he had been a resident since 1886.His father, the late Hector Beaton, who was his predecesspr as township clerk was appoined to that office in 1838. Between the father and son, they held the position continuously for neraly 100 years. Mr. Beaton retired in 1944, but acted as advisory clerk until last autinm.Born in Pickering village, where he received his education, he was several years assistant to his faher before being appointed clerk in 1883. He was past master of Brougham Lodge, AF & AM, and a member of the IOOF.His wife died 12 years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. H.E Turner, Whitevale and two sons W.J. Burton, Toronto and Dr. B.B. Beaton, Whitby.
