After a lingering illness one of the oldest residents of Pickering, Edwin Balsdon, died at his home here on Friday, January [6] in his 79th year. His funeral was held on Monday to Mount Lawn Cemetery, Oshawa, and was largely attended. Deceased was a native of Devonshire England, and came to Canada when a young man, and for a time worked in Darlington township, but has been a resident of Pickering township for about 60 years. He was a very successful farmer, but retired a number of years ago when he came into the village to reside. He was a life long member of the Methodist Church and of the United Church after the union, and was a Consertative in politics. He is survived by his widow, whose maiden name was Rebecca E. Stork, one daughter and six sons: Mrs Gordon Law (Mary), Wesley, John S. and Robert, of Pickering; Fred of Burford: Lou,of Moncton, N.B., and Clare of Pickering. He is also survived by two brothers , John L. of Markham, and Wm. H. of Whitby.
