William Peeke The following excerpt is from the original edition of _Toronto of Old_ by Henry Scadding, published in 1873. In the later editions, much information was edited out. Thus, the following reference to William Peeke, ( Peek ) can only be found in the 1873 edition: ""The Boxer was commanded by a veteran Lake Captain William Peeke. Capt. Peeke it is stated supplied lime burnt at Duffin's Creek before the close of the last century for the foundation of the Lighthouse on Gibraltar Point, and other structures in York. "" In a later edition, published in 1966, the editor states in the preface, p. ix: ""The great length of the original edition of Henry Scadding's Toronto of Old made it necessary to abridge the text... the chronicle of the harbour (The Harbour: Its Marine, 1793-1863) which was not a complete history, has been cut to about a quarter of its length, mainly by leaving out passages that were not directly related to the city.""
