HomeMy WebLinkAbout386"Article copied from the Pickering News, December 1, 1944, page 4. Mr. Editor — I walked by the old municipal hall in Brougham, and it looks like Longfellow's poem ""The Deserted Village"". Our municipal fathers have seen fit to abandon the heritage of their forefathers, and move to more pretentious quarters. Why should the Township Ratepayers sanction this and leave to wreck and ruin a building that is still in condition to repair and rich in memories and the history of the township. They have (the Council) bought a building in Brougham for Township Chambers. Why not demand that they, return to the old Hall and have it made in such condition as would be fitting for a Township of our standing. Now, as we own the other building let's, in the interest, of ""Health, Welfare and Morals"" convert it into a municipal hospital. A sick person in our district must go begging to Oshawa or Toronto and quite often can not find a place to lay his weary body. This is a factor we will have to deal with in the post-war-era. So let the Township of Pickering show the rest the way. Your comments, approval or disapproval can be forwarded to Dr. N. E McEwen R .R. 1, Locust Hill, Ont.
