HomeMy WebLinkAbout1386Article photcopied from the Pickering News, November 19, 1948.Mrs. John Annan Laid to Rest One of Pickering's most widely known residents was buried last Saturday in the person of Mrs. John Annan, who passed away on Wenesday, Nov. 10, in her 86th year, after a lingering illness. Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1863, as Mary Findlay, she came to Canada with her parents at the age of 13, and settled at Pickering. After her marriage to the late John Annan who predeceased her some years ago, they moved to what is now the E.L. Ruddy farm. Later they retired to the village where they resided until their death. Mrs. Jack Calvert is now the only surviving member of the family, a brother Walter having been killed just before the end of the First World War.Mrs. Annan was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. In her younger days she was active in all church circles.Funeral service was held from the home of her daughter Mrs. Calvert with Rev. D. Marshall officiating.Pallbearers were: Vernon Disney, V. Siddons, Arthur Mitchell, Louis Moase, John Baxter and Louis Scott. Interment was made in the Erskine Cemetery.
