W.J.Clark The death took place early on Thursday morning, August 1st, of Annie Jean Allan, beloved wife of the late W.J.Clark, of this place, in her 81st year. Mrs. Clark had been in failing health for some months, and she passed away at her home here, without having suffered long.Born in Hamilton, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Allan, she married Mr. Clark in 1890, coming to Pickering, where Mr. Clark and his brother, the late Jos. T. Clare, published the News. Mrs. Clark's uncle, John Cuthbert built the Gordon House here.Mrs. Clark was one of the few of her generation still living in this village, and has a host of friends who will remember her a kindly, very good-natured, extremely witty, very devoted to her family, and hospitable to that degree that many of us of a following generation will always remember the children's parties at the Clark home of those days.She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, an origianl member of the "Woman's Club" and always taking an active part in amny of the other women's groups of Pickering,She is survived by four daughters and two sons, Mrs.Fred Balsdon of Burford (Phyllis), Mrs. Harry Boyes, Pickering,(Fanny), Mrs. L.H. Wright, Stettler, Alta., (Marjory), and Nora at home ; Allan H. of Lakefield and Joseph of Burford. Mary (Mrs. J.C, Stork) and Jean predeceased her some years ago. Mr. Clark passed away in 1935 . One brother , Robt.C. Allan of Hamilton also survives.The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, with service at the home and interment at Erskine Cemetery. Four grandsons and two nephews acted as pallbearers. A large, beautiful display of flowers from mourning relatives and friends testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held.
