How do you li-e those -_ie•,r Laycox Street

from ',lard #5 has jade goon the first
of his many election promises, how about
the rest of us co-operating by having;
our house numbers displayed in a con-
spicuous place on all cur homes.
Here's a Christma.a gift suggestion for
the woi,.an of the house to give to the

delivery is still a few years away, but
in the i,.eantir:,e the letter slots could
oe used for all those sales sheets

The ditch area on the east side of vast

needs attention. This mosquito haven

SOME FACTS FROM YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL
REPRESENTATIVE.
CLIFF LAYCOX
I trust that all readers and their
families have had a long enjoyable sum-
mer and have returned from their vaca-
tions completely refreshed.
My family and myself have just re-
turned from a trip through the Southern
States and to say the least I have been
deluged with questions in regard to
sewers and the " that is it" ('later
Tower).
At the moment I think that you are more
interested in what is being done about
sewers, I shall pass on to you the
latest information as received from the
Engineering; Department. The Engineer-
ing design is almost complete. A firm
of Ontario Land Surveyors are now in
the act of surveying; easements clear
across to Frenchman's Ray for the main
trunk sev er from ':Vest Rouge to the pro-
posed pumpinc7 station on the '.'lest side
of Frenchman's Pay. ^,`e hope to present
our proporal to the Ontario '!later Re-
sources Commission some time this month
and f ollowinf; their approval to approach
The Ontario Municipal Board for their
permission to raise the necessary monies
to permit work to commence in the fall.
Much of the work on the sewers in Vilest
Rouge can and will be done under the
new fabricated Mike Starr ''linter 'Ylorks
Program under which the Federal Govern-
ment will subsidize salaries to the ex-
tent of 5001 the Provincial Government
25'1"of and our Township 25/'17. This plan
will no doubt account for more savings
on this project.
"JHAT IS IT"---"7010T DO WE FIRE" are
but a couple of the questions I have been
asked in regard to the ',lest Rouge water
tank which is now under construction at
the top end of East Ave. The most im-
portant single factor that I can think
of in connection with the placement of
the dater Tank is that West Rouge will
at last becone an identified locality.
^Ihen completed the tank will be painted
a pastel shade of green and will bear in
large letters on two sides "*,TEST ROUGE".
The Tank should be in operation by the
fall and in addition to giving the area
far better pressure than we now enjoy,
it will insure us of an uninterrupted
supply of water should difficulties ever
arise at the lake front pumping station.
VlEST POU E is suffering with growing
pains as is evidenced by the recent start
of the 2ou-edale subdivision bounded by
East Ave. and Port Union Road. The re-
gistration of the subdivision plan has
encountered a slight hold up however
three sample houses are already nearing
completion on the Port Union Road bound-
ary but the entire project should be
well on the way by the late fall.

Some drainage problems have arisen
throughout the area, the worst of
which are located on Fanfare Ave.,
Rouge Hills Drive (Rear Yards) and
Brownfield Gdns. (Rear Yards). I
have surveyed these conditions in the
company of our Township Engineer and
our Roads Supt. and steps will be
taken to correct them if possible.
When I presented the need for the
fencinc; of private swimming pools to
the Council it was with no thought in
my mind of discriminating against
those fortunate enough to have a
private pool, but rather to take steps
to protect those who do have them,
against the possibility of strange
children playing around and falling
into same. Copies of the By -Law cover-
ing this are available at the Township
Office and may be obtained by applying

I have been requested to explore the
possiblity of having school signs
posted on Island Rd. to the East and
West of East Ave. My preliminary find-
ing is that this may not be legal pro-
cedure due to the school not being on
Island Rd. however I shall look into
this further in the interests of Child
safety. Work has commenced on the new
St. Marys Separate School in East
Rouge and should be completed in the
fall. The Architect for that structure
Is none other than our own local resid-
ent Bill Sacoccio of Island Rd. New
buses have been purchased by Area 2
School Hoard in the interest, of economy
as well as more efficient transportation
to and from classes for our children.
Council have also agreed to raise funds,
for the School ;hoard to commence con-
struction. of the 7iest Rouge Gymnatorium
if and when approval is obtained.
Our Police Dept. have just completed an
exhaustive survey of street stop signs,
slow signs etc. It could be that some
of the signs that you are used to ob-
serving will be removed and others in-
stalled elsewhere.
