You're quite right! The Royal Muskoka Hotel s your only choice. Distant
fields may appear greener to you, but this indicates br in fag —that you need a rest.
Does not its charming architecture, its elevation, he general surroundings sug-
gest a summer home out of the ordinary?
Is there anything in Canada, in America for that matter, so attractive: so ap-
pealing for a summer visit?
Nor when the visitor is shown to his room are his pleasant impressions lessened.
On the contrary, they are heightened, for he finds thai every loom is a front room
commanding a view of lake or forest, and with all thi conveniences of the private
home, hot and cold running water, electric light, bells, etc.
The Royal Muskoka was built especially to mee the requirements of season
guests. Wide hallways extend the full length of each ing of the building and open
on balconies at each end. This gives ideal ventilation a d admits the cooling breezes
from every direction, making the rooms exceptionally airy and comfortable even in
hottest weather.
The atmosphere of the Royal Muskoka is one of courteous welcome —so genuine
that it cannot be classed as a mere hotel. One never leaves it with the impression
that he has been stopping at a hotel, but rather that he has been a welcome guest at
a most delightful home.
From dusty streets
Its visitors are members of a great family of congenial people, who find here
the ideal conditions and the home in the woods which they seek. It is a rendezvous
for lovers of outdoor life and spontaneity of thought and action is apparent in the
lives and doings of the great number of young people who visit the Royal Muskoka.
Tournaments in golf, ,tennis, bathing, boating, regattas, pilgrimages to forest re-
treats and to mountain tops; xcursions by water and by land; dancing, musicales,
entertainments.
But the great attraction at the Royal Muskoka is the greatly improved golf
course —the last word in a nine hole watered course. Several hundred yards were
added in 1919 to the old course and you now begin and finish your play in front of
the hotel, as shown on another page. ,
Accommodation at the Royal Muskoka may be a little higher in price than at
many other places in Canada. It is worth it. Why not pay this little difference
in price and .be really comfortable and contented? Why put up with the discom-
forts of the average summer resort
All visitors are here treated alike, however, as regards prices. The rate for each
room is decided according to size, location, etc. It is not customary for hotels to
do this. At the Royal Muskoka you are assured fair and generous treatment.
If this brief description has interested you will you not afford us tthe oppor-
tunity of supplying other details?

PICTURE the Summerland of your dearest dreams, where
clean swept blue skies look down on crystal clear
waters of shadowed river or broad lake; on wooded
islands swept with the sweetest, cleanest air on God's green
earth. Sniff the cool breeze, fragrant of spicy pine, of wild
rose and fern, as it gently ripples the waters which lap the
shore, and sings a song in the treetops. Catch the radiance
c.f" the sunsjiine which never smiled more brilliantly over
fragrant pines, and which gives way reluctantly with a last
glorious glare of rose and gold, to the witchery of the sil-
very moon.
If you can see this picture and people it with those,
like yourself who love the out-of-doors, then you catch a
fleeting glimpse of the indescribable beauty and charm of
the Muskoka Lakes; Muskoka, the Highlands of Ontario,
the Mecca of those who seek a holiday in the sumnierland
of their fondest fancy.
Perhaps you have never been in Muskoka; have never
breathed its invigorating air; have never glided round its
bewitching little islands —Then you are to be envied, for
n
ahead of 'you is the joy of discovering the place where
dreams come true, when happy choice —and incidenta ly
very excellent train and boat service, carry you to that id al
spot.
It matters not what the turn of your desire, Musko a
with its infinite variety can fill every wish.
Do you seek the quiet of unspoiled nature for y it
period of rest from the rush and turmoil of a busy li e?
Then turn your thoughts towards :Muskoka' for there, per..
fect solitude may be yours. Do you, perchance, seek nature
with the addition of congenial companionship of others h li-
daying? Then again Muskoka with its many charming s-
itors at the summer
hotels is the solution.
Are you middle aged
and prefer quiet, or
are you young and
would dance your way
through the holiday
weeks? Again in Mus-
koka your wishes are
fulfilled.
Do you want good - _
fishing? Do you
long for the
woods? D o y o ti
love broad lakes,
for the rush of the -
motor boat, or for
the sail that bends
before the breeze; or would you seek still rivers wh re
Your
canoe may steal silently beneath the overhanging
trees?
Or are you full of energy, and does your being critve
golf on perfect links, tennis on smooth courts? Is
swimming your chief delight? Do camp fires, picnics
and exploring trips constitute your holiday bliss? Or
does the lazy hammock on broad, breeze -swept and
shady verandah fill your soul with contentment?
Perhaps the call of the wild is upon you. Perhaps
you crave a rustic cottage. Or again, you may prefer
the modern hotel with delightful people all about, and
with everything complete from the French chef in, the
kitchen to the porcelain bath tub and hot and cold water
in your suite of rooms.
Whichever of these be the demands of your nature
in holiday time, Muskoka holds the key to your
heart's desire.
In planning the summer holiday, the practical
things have to be considered as well as the ideal.
In fact it is not ideal unless the practical contri-
butes its quota to the total. A spot that is healthy,
with adequate boat, train, telegraph and telephone
connection is an essential of modern life even on
holidays. Let us in
fancy take the trip to
Muskoka so that you
may grasp a definite
idea of what it has to
offer.
There comes a mo-
ment in the summer
months when you
know that you must
get away from the city
or town. And so you start for
:Muskoka. Your last point of
change, should you be coming
from the United States, before
stepping across the border, is
probably Buffalo. In a few
hours you have reached Toron-
to, and, making convenient train The spacious Dining Cab
connection in the same station,
you are on the last lap of your trip to Muskoka Wharf, Bala
or Bala Park.
There is a holiday spirit amongst the passengers. Every-
one on the train is bound for the same
resort —Muskoka, which it may be
l well to point out, extends, in lakes
and rivers and rushing torrents, in
wooded islands and almost untouched
wilderness, over many hundred square
miles.
In a few hours you reach Muskoka
Wharf. Out you go,
bag and baggage,
and the first real
breath of the Mus-
koka pine is in your
lungs. You feel the
years dropping from
you as, transferred
to the waiting
steamer of the Mus-
koka Navigation
Company, you glide
out on the lake.
Even the journey
becomes a delight.

HAY FEVER —A visit to these Lakes gives instant relief

The flagship "Sagamo" is now on the Lake Rosseau "run "
land which stretches broadly on either side, like a blue mist
in the distance, you sail up the lake and pass islands with
pine trees raising their crests high above the rocky sum-
mits, while balsam, fern and silver birch border the very
water's edge. Here and there you catch a glimpse of a roof
half -hidden amongst the trees, or again a summer home on
its rugged point stands out boldly to catch every fresh
breeze that blows. It may be a rustic cottage or it may be
a beautiful summer home in the midst
of broad acres.
Here and there you stop at the
islands and drop off supplies, while
holidaying groups in summer garb,
and with tanned, happy faces, smile
a welcome even to the strangers.
As island after island vanishes in
the distance you find your boat sail-
ing from Lake Muskoka into a beau-
tiful river which someone may tell
you is Indian River, and soon you are
at Port Carling.
Muskoka is a thousand feet above
sea -level, and so at Port Carling there
is a lock which raises your boat to
the higher level of the second lake,
and then on you sail out on Lake
on the "Sagamo" Rosseau.
Again there is the charm of the
islands past which you sail. And so, on you go, each rug-
ged wooded point bringing some fresh beauty before
your eyes, until you have reached the particular island —per-
haps farther yet, on Lake Joseph,
which is to be your happy holiday
haunt.

And after he had finished
He l ronounced it "very good."
He said, "There's just one other thing —
I feel that it is best
To fix some lonely beauty spot
Where weary roan may rest.
"I'll toss some rocks and mountains 'round,
And from the forest hills
I'll make soft mystic music
From rivulets and rills.
"And ceep down in the valley,
Beneith the bluest sky,

With emerald hilltops high."

The Curative Waters of Muskoka
The waters in the Muskoka District are particularly pure
and healthful, and the advent of tourists, with summer
hotels and cottages scattered everywhere on the shores of
the lakes, has not been allowed to alter their pristine purity.
No summer resort can boast of a better protected water
supply. The waters are naturally pure and soft. Their free-
dom from the lime salts which cause the hardness of the
Great Lakes is due to the absence of any limestone forma-
tion. The Muskoka rocks are Laurentian granites and
gneiss.
This softness, from absence of lime, gives the waters a
special value to the overworked business man, especially if
showing any high blood pressure or arterial changes. Dr.
Hinsdale, one of America's foremost authorities on the
therapeutic uses of water, has written: "Mineral waters
containing lime Salts should be avoided by patients tith
heart disease." Lime is believed to raise the blood pres-
sure. The purer the water the greater its capacity for the
solution and elimination of the unnecessary salts (and other
substances produced in the process of digestion and assimi-
lation."
-
It is worthy of note
nowhere else in the world
can the health and pleasure -seeking tourist enjoy so
much for as little money, or with such complete im-
munity from ah extortion as in Muskoka.
