As directed by the Will of the late John Miller, the whole of the Thistle
Ila' Herd, of Imported and Home -Bred Scotch Shorthorns, will be sold with-
out reserve, on the 18th day of January, 1905, sale commencing at 12 o'clock,
noon.
For 69 years the Late Proprietor was engaged in importing and breeding
Shorthorns and we feel sure the verdict of those who see them sold will be,
that success has resulted. The Herd is now the oldest in the world and there
are not many of its size that are better.
While pedigree has never been considered before individuality, it has
always been kept in mind that animals bred from good ancestors as far back
as possible, were the most reliable to produce their own kind.
Nearly all the cattle that have been imported have been Scotch and in
latter years they have been of Mr. Marr's breeding. The Herd now contains
more straight bred Marr cattle than any other that we know of, and, they are
every one producing a calf each year, of the type we want.
From the time the Herd was started to the present time, no expense has
been spared in providing the sires necessary, Scarcely one has been used that
was not a prize-winner at The Provincial or Toronto Shows and the present
bulls in use will be found to have great merit and breeding.
The last time that a full showing was made from the Herd, in Toronto,
every first with one exception was won by its entries.
The Annual Meeting of The Dominion Shorthorn Association will be
held in Toronto, on Tuesday the 1 yth, and we extend to all interested in good
cattle an invitation to come to this sale.
Trains the Evening before and Morning of sale will be met at Claremont
on the C. P. R. and at Pickering on the G. T. R. for any that. find that way the
most convenient, if they notify us.

Bull of Messrs. Colling's
Sally's Secret is a beautiful heifer of great size, and as smooth as an
apple. She is a show heifer without preparation, one of the best heifers as
well as having a pedigree embracing the best blood and unsurpassed individu -
ally in her ancestors both male and female. We have never had a better
thriver on the farm and this will be appreciated when we say she has grown
to her present form on quite ordinary feeding.
Royal Prince (71490)— 26o6g=is a pure Golden Drop bred by Mr. Camp-
bell, used by him for one season and at Thistle Ha' for six seasons with the
greatest success. No Shorthorn bull in America during the past six years
has left such a valuable lot of calves and they have sold very readily at good
prices. His sire and dam were both successful. show animals in Scotland and
both made a great record as breeders.
Topsman (63447) is a Maid of Promise sired by the grand Cruickshank
Sire Gravesend (46461) used for many years by Mr. Campbell and Mr Duthie.
Topsman was the greatest sire for producing natural thick flesh that we have
known and this feature has descended in great degree to his progeny offered
in this catalogue.
The Secret family in the hands of Mr. Cruickshank and Mr. Jamieson
have been most successful and they have been of great service in this country
wherever used, in thickening the flesh and giving both feeding and milking
qualities to the Shorthorn breed.

Alexandrina 28th is a splendid young red cow of that most famous, Marr
family that has produced so many good ones, amongst them being the noted
Gay Monarch, and Alexandrina loth; the g. dam of this cow was a full sister to
Gay Monarch. A half sister to this cow Alexandrina 28th was sold at the Marr
Dispension for $1,750.00. She was from same dam and by Lovat Star (77139)•
This is a beautiful cow, a splendid - breeder and with breeding scarcely
equalled even in the best of Marr pedigrees.
Wanderer (6o13R) was bred at Sittyton and was one, of the favourite bulls
when the herd was sold. He was afterwards bought by Mr. Marr and
retained during his life. His sire was the .great Commodore (541 18,) his
dam was the grand cow Godiva by Cumberland: (461.440 and his G. dam Gilliver
by Roan Gauntlet (35284). Wanderer was one of the most successful bulls dur-
ing the latter years of the Marr Herd.
Captain of the Guard (58596) was another favourite Cruickshank bull in Mr.
Marr's estirhation, he was also by Commodore.(54118) and his dam was Chris-
mas Carol by Cumberland (46144)•
William of Orange (5o694) so,,well known and so highly appreciated where
ever Shorthorns are known, was by Roan Gauntlet (35284) and out of Orange

Alexandrina15th is a beautiful heifer, short -legged, thick smooth and an
easy feeder. She is one of a small number of that most noted family that
produced the only Gay Monarch and other good ones. Alexandrina 3oth
from same dam as Alexandrina 28th and by Lovat Star (77139) made $1750.00
at the Marr dispersion. Gay Monarch was a full brother to Alexandrina
loth.
Primrose Dav was imported by John Miller & Sons, in 1902. He was
sired by the Duthie bull Primrose Pride (79605) and from the Rosebud cow,
Rosy Dawn, bred by George Harrison and from the same Rosebud foundation
that produced for him his Royal Champions for several years. They were
bred by Mr. Campbell of Kinellar and were considered by him, one of his
best families. Primrose Day is himself a grand bull and has won since sold
from Thistle Ha' some very important prizes. He is now at the head of a
very valuable herd.
Wanderer (6o1 ;8) was one of the favourite bulls in the Sittyton herd
When it was sold and he was purchased by Mr. Marr and used as long as he
lived with the most marked success. No sire is more appreciated in a pedi-
gree.
Captain of the Guard :(58596) was another favourite Cruickshank bull
used by Mr. Marr. He was like Wanderer by Commodore (54118) and their
dams were both by Cumberland (46144)
The next sire, William of Orange (59694) is so well and favourably known
throughout the Shorthorn world as being one of the greatest latter day
Cruickshank bulls that it is unnecessary to describe him.

Village Queen 5th, is a beautiful heifer, short -legged and smooth. She bids
fair to be as good as her sisters that have invariably been sold for big prices to
be shown or to strengthen some of the most valuable herds.
Her sire Royal Prince (71490) = 26o62 - is a pure Golden Drop, from the
same sire as Golden Fame and Golden Fame's Grand -dam was the dam of Royal
Prince. She was a show cow and a good breeder.
Royal Prince has been used at Thistle Ha' for the past six years and it is
generally believed that his progeny have been as high an average as the produce
from any sire of the past ten years.
Village Queen - 28396 = is a beautiful cow, short -legged, deep, wide and
smooth. She has been one of the most valuable breeding cows in the herd and
her calves have been sold for handsome prices.
The Village family, bred by Mr. Cruickshank since 1834 has always been
considered one ,of his best and they have perhaps done as much to improve the
Shorthornes in America as any family that has been introduced during the past
25 years.

Strathallan Family. She is a wonderful milker and has reared some of the
best calves sold from the herd of late years. Her calves have invariably
brought good prices.
Musgrave (64470) was one of the best of the wonderful Missie Family
that does such good work wherever they go and that sold for over $840.00
each when the Uppermill Herd was dispersed.
Musgrave was a noted sire and might well be, for he was sired by that re-

Emma 37th is a good young cow, bred from that grand old family so long
in the hands of Mr. Marr. She has been a regular and good breeder and pre-
sents a chance to get a young cow of Mr. Marr's breeding that will not often
occur. The breeding is of the best that existed in the Uppermill Herd, for
nothing but Cruickshank bulls had been used by'Mrs. Turnbull for mauy years
b-fore Emma end was purchased by Mr. Marr.
Count Arthur (70194) was a fine specimen of the great Cruickshank Vic-
toria Family. He was by Count Lavender (6o545) fifty-two times first and
Champion at the greatest shows in Britain as well as being the most successful
sire used in Mr. Willis' herd. His dam was Victoria 85th by Gondolier (52956)
4 She was shown with Count Arthur and Victoria's Countess as cow and two of
h:r-progeny wherever there was a prize given for such, and they won without
a ,struggle in evary case. They made a very strong three. Victoria's Countess
was:the dam of Mr. Prather's great sire, Victoria's Count.
Marshfield (6298o) was a choice Missie bull used by Mr. Marr and was
sired by William of Orange (5o694)
William of Orange (5o694) was a Cruickshank Orange Blossom and made
an impression on the Uppermill Herd that cannot be over estimated. Prince
Royal (45413) was also a good sire but it is needless to say more than this
all the sires in this pedigree have been good and together they guarantee the
progeny to be valuable wherever used.

Royal Prince (71490) is a grand old bull bred from some of the very best,
of the Golden Drop Family, his sire was Emancipator (65447) bred by Mr.
Robertson and shown successfully in` some very strong shows. Royal Prince's
dam was Golden Drop 9th also a grand show cow that won a 'great deal.
Royal Prince was used by Mr. Campbell in Scotland for one year and has
been used in the Thistle Ha' herd for the past six years with unparalelled
success. His calves have been of the highest order of merit and have been
sought after by the best breeders in America.
Emma 37th, is one of five heifers purchased from Mr. Marr by 'us at a
big price, she has been most successful since coming to our herd and her
calves should be very valuable, especially when from such a sire as Royal
Prince and when merit is so plainly shown as in this heifer.
Count Arthur (70194) with his dam and a sister were unbeaten in .Eng-
land and Scotland when shown by Mr Willis as a cow and two of her progeny.
They were a wonderful three, Mr. Prather's splendid bull, Victoria's Count,
one of the best sires of the day was from the sister.
Mr. Duthie used Count Arthur with success in his herd.
Marsfield (6298o) was a Missie bull by William of Orange (5o694) used
by Mr. Marr. Then follows a list of sires well known, and good enough to be
a guarantee of the progeny descended from them.

Maude 45th is a beautiful young heifer from a lucky good breeding
mother of one of Mr Marr's oldest and favourite families. She is a short -legged
smooth, good heifer and a herd founded on such and from good well-bred
sires would be second to none in existence in both breeding and individual
excellence.
Royal Prince i71490) is one of the best of the Golden Drops and he has
proven the value of the blood, for no bull in late years has made a better
showing than he has. He was used one year in Scotland and six years,, in
the Thistle Ha' herd with.uniform and marked success. His calves have sold
for a greater average than the calves from any Shorthorn sire that has been ex-
tensively used in Canada for many years.
Spicy Robin (69638) was bred by Mr. Willis, sired by Roan Robin
(57992) a.Cruickshank Golden by Cumberland (46144)that was used by Mr.
Willis and Mr. Duthie with great advantage to both herds. Spicy Robin's
dam was Sprightly by Captain of the Guard (58596) Spicy Robin was a good
sire and used to great advantage in the Uppermill Herd.
Then follows a long list of sires that are well and fovourably known by all
Shorthorn breecters, making a pedigree which shows the determination of Mr.
Marr to do just what he has done, and build up a herd of Shorthorns whose
influence would be recognised and appreciated over the whole world.

Lady Madge is a big good young cow. She has been a regular and
good breeder. She was very highly esteemed by Mr. Marr when we purchased
her and his opinion has been proven correct in this as in almost all cases where
Shorthorns were concerned. Lady Madge is from one of the old families at
Uppermill, bred with the care and determination that only such men as Mr,,
Marr, sr: and Mr. Marr, jr, could give to their lifeork. Their one and only
wish was to improve the breed of cattle they had chosen and make a herd that
would be known and noted throughout the World for its high standard of
excellence and good influence on Shorthorns. They succeeded beyond their
fondest hopes and that success was known during their lives, but the greatest
profits from their work will be reaped by those who take advantage of their •
judgment and results.

Crusader (47656). Chrysanthemum was from Princess Royal by Champion of
England (17526). Beau Ideal's dam was Lady Dorothy 16th bred by George
Bruce and by Minjekahwan (53319). During the Aberdeenshire Shorthorn sales
in October last four members of the Lady Dorothy family made higher prices
than'were made by any others and higher than had been made by four mem-

Lady Madge 3rd is a beautiful thick heifer, one that would bring a long
price in Scotland where early. maturity and strong constitution is more highly
appreciated, than in any other country. She is massive, deep and smooth, a
splendid example of the results of a lifetime of intelligent study and effort
such• as has been expended by the Messrs. Marr in building up the family.
Royal Prince (71490) is a straight bred member of that illustrious family,
the Kinellar Golden Drops. He was used with great success by Mr Campbell
before being imported and has been used with as great success for six years
in the Thistle Ha' herd since importation. He never bred a poor one.
Spicy Monarch (73701) was used extensively in the Marr Herd and with
good results." He was sired by Spicy Robin (69638) and from Alexandrina
loth, a full sister to the great Gay Monarch.
Beau Ideal (63685) was a grandly bred bull and proved a good sire. The
bulls that follow in the pedigree are known and appreciated the world over,

Nonpareil (75140) as his name indicates was a straight bred Nonpareil
and a particularly well bred one. He was by the same sire as Royal Prince
(71490) and Golden Fame. He was used considerable by Messrs. Campbell
and proved a good sire. His breeding shows that the best sires used in the
Kinellar Herd have followed each other in his pedigree.
Zoedone (68124) was used a great deal in the herd of Mr. Strachan and
he was highly prized by him. His sire was Rajah (67685) and he was bred by
Mr. Fortescue from his noted Rosie family by Banker (60283). Zoedone's dam
was Zoe 2nd a particularly well bred Clipper in the herd of Mr. Gordon and
sired by the renowned Star of Morning (58189).
Caesar (5858o) was sired by the Cruickshank bull, Clear -the -way (47604)
and he was a grand -son of the great Princess Royal by Champion of England
(17526). Caesar's dam was Augusta 19th bred by Mr. Bruce from that smooth
thick early maturing family that has produced more Smithfield winners than
any other.
Chrysanthemum, is herself a wonderful thick good heifer and bids fair to
be a money maker as she is producing good calves without loss of time. Her
dam was a grand thick cow and cost a long price.

Beatrice 2nd — 4o647 = is a smooth red cow with that effeminate character
that stamps her as a good breeder and she has demonstrated that fact in
inany instances. She has been a regular and good breeder since old enough
and she belongs to a family of that kind. They have bred many sires for use
in good herds and that sold for good prices. The dam was a particularly
nice smooth cow and the grand -dam was the choice of a large importation
when she was purchased frcm the Luther Adams Herd.
There is no family of Scotch cattle that are straighter bred.
Sittyton Stamp (66368) was in reality bred by Mr. Cruickshank, for the
dam was in calf when purchased by Mr. Duthie. He was from that beautiful
cow Spirea, well known to all those who visited the Sittyton Herd in its last
years. Sittyton Stamp was shown but once while we owned him and he was
then placed first while three of the same importation were placed next to him
at Toronto. lie was a great success in our herd.
Northern Light (57801) was'used by us for a short time and proved a
splendid sire. He was the highest priced calf at one of Mr. Adams' best
sales and afterwards won several prizes while at the head of -Mr. Robert Dav-
ies'_ herd. He was one of the best bred Cruickshank Nonpareils that has
been imported.
Banner Bearer (49034) was one of the best bulls of his day. He was
bred by Mr Duthie from a grand cow of the Beauty Family which he pur-
chased. from Mr. Marr. He was sired by the unequalled Earl cif March
(33807) and his dam was by Young Englishman (31113) He proved in the
herd of Mr. Campbell to be as good as his breeding.
The bulls that follow are well known and have been noted in their day,
every one a good sire and every one a good bull.

Beatrice 7th is a very good heifer indeed and she promises to be like
the other members of this lucky family. :The Bessies are particularly well
and straight bred They have been great money makers and have produced
many sires to head good herds in Canada and the United States as well. Im-
ported Bessie Lass was the choiee of an importation of heifers made by Mr.
Luther Adams when he was buying the best in Aberdeenshire.
Royal Prince (7 > 490) is a straight bred Golden Drop and he has proved
himself a grand sire in the .herd of Mr. Campbell in Scotland and in the
Thistle Ha' herd where he was used six years. He has now been purchased
for use in Mr. Birrell's herd just two miles from Thistle Ha Few sires
have done more for the breed.
Sittyton Stamp (66368) was used for years at Thistle Ha' and he too
was a great sire. lie was one of Mr. Cruickshank's best Secrets and his dam
was one of the choice Sittyton cows purchased by Mr. Duthie when carrying
Sittyton Stamp. The sire was Leonidas (5926o) one of the best bulls sold
with the Sittyton herd and the dam was Spirea, a cow known to those who
saw the great herd in its .last years.
Northern Light (57801) was a beautifully bred Cruickshank Nonpareil
and was the choice calf in one of Luther Adams' best importations. He
proved a great sire in the Thistle Ha' herd and he was as successful both as a
show and breeding bull in the herd of Mr. Robert Davies.

Butterfly 30th is one of the best heifers we have ever bred. She has had
nothing but the usual care given our heifers but with little extra attention
would be in the best show form. She is a splendid pattern of this great
family, that has produced a young bull to make the record price to date in
South America, viz: Sl l000.00 and a yearling heifer to bring $175o.00 at the
dispersion of the Uppermill Herd. It is seldom we see such a heifer as this
sold and when joined with such merit ill her nearest relatives,. she must be an
acquisition to any breeder.
r
Butterfly Queen was one of Mr. Marr's best heifers when purchased by
us a yearling.
Royal Prince (71490) a straight and well bred Golden Drop has demon-
strated his ability to produce the best in this heifer. He was used with great
success for one year in Mr. Campbell's Herd and for six years in Thistle Ha'
herd, no bull having made a better impression in late years, in any country.
Fortune (70467) was a choice Roan Lady bull bred by Mr. Marr. He

Pennan Broadhooks is a well made thick good feeding heifer. A mem-
ber of that family that was the foundation of Lord Lovat's success in Shorthorn
breeding. The Broadhook's family was a tower of strength in Mr. Cruickshank
hands, and Broadhooks loth by Champion of England was perhaps one of
the best ever sold by him. Lord Lovat has made for years the highest prices
for his bull calves that was made by any Scotch breeder, and the most of
them were of this family. His calves have been purchased and used by Mr.
Duthie and Mr. Marr very liberally.
Cornelius (66864) is a full brother to Corner Stone, that won in the
hands of Mr. Gordon the champion over all ages and sexes at the Highland
Show and for which he refused 1 000 pounds. Cornelius is one of the most
valuable sires in the North of Scotland and he is now a show bull at eight years
old. He was a particularly well-bred Clipper, his sire was the Sittyton bull
Touchstone (60073) and his dam Butterscotch by Star of Morning (5818q).
Golden Ray (67 13 2) was by Scottish Archer (59893) and his dam .was
Guelder Rose by Pride of the Isles (35072). Golden Ray was a beautifully
bred Cruickshank Golden, and he was a splendid sire too..
Lord Violet (56103) was a grandly bred Violet and his sire was the un-
equalled Field Marshall (4787o). Lord Violet was one of the best bred
Cruickshank bulls ever bred in Aberdeen and he was one of the greatest sires
of the breed. His breeding would lead any person familiar with Scotch
cattle to expect such results.
Crown Prince (51048), also bred by Mr. Duthie and sold to Lord Lovat
was a favorite- bull, sired by Lord Ythan (48263) dam Silver Cherry by

Mary Broadhooks is a nice heifer, from a good sire and dam and should be
reliable as to her produce. There is none better bred, there could not be a
more reliable family for they have been producing the best for years in Scot-
land and in America, and their produce has been sought after and sold as well
as any of the renowned Scotch families.
Langford Eclipse (83848) is catalogued and will be sold in this sale. He
has not many equals as a bull and his breeding could not be surpassed. He
ft'
is one of the best bred Cruickshank Lavenders living. His sire was Count
Valiant (74307) a grandly bred and very choice Violet bull. His dam was
1 '
Lavender Lilac bred by Mr. Willis and by Wiltshire Victor (71883) bred and
'
successfully shown by Mr. Willis.
Cornelius (66864) is a full brother to Corner Stone, that won for Mr. A.
M. Gordon, his breeder the champion over all ages and sexes at the Highland
Society's show when Cicely was reserve for the open championship. Cornelius
was considered by many, a better ball than Corner Stone and he has proven
one of the best sires in the North of Scotland during the past 8 years. He is
now 8 years old and in form to be shown yet. He is one of the best bred
Cruickshank Clippers that can be found.
Golden Ray (67132) is a well bred Cruickshank Golden, sired by Scottish
Archer (59893) dam. Guelder Rose by Pride of the Isles (35072)
Lord Violet (56103) is a Cruickshank Violet of the choicest breeding.
His sire was Field Marshall (47870) and his dam was Violet Blossom by
Viceroy (32764) also a Violet sired by Champion of England (17526) and from
the beautiful Violet's Forth, imported to Canada and thought by many to be,
the best Cruickshank cow that ever came across the water.

Jewel 3rd is a particularly nice short legged thick heifer. She shows the
Scotch character and fine feeding qualities. This family is a nicely bred one
and shows the care that has been used in keeping in the right line. The
first of the family in Canada was imported from the herd of Xlr. Duthie by
Messrs. Green and Sons of Innerkip.
Royal Prince" (71490) is a straight bred Kinellar Golden Drop, sired by
the show bull Emancipator and from the show cow, Golden Drop 9th by
Gravesend (46461). Royal Prince has been one of the great sires of the age
and was used one year in the Kinellar Herd and six years in the Thistle Ha'
Herd. Few bulls have done so much good, but his work will be demonstrated
in the cattle offered in this sale.
Lord Stanley 4th = 22678 = was sired by the noted show and breeding bull,
Lord Stanley= 17849=and his dam was that noted show heifer of the Nonpareil
Family, Nonpareil Victoria. Her dam was a beautiful imported straight
Cruickshank Nonpareil and her sire was the great Cruickshank Victoria bull,
Vice -Consul (6011,2). Perhaps 6o bull has done more good in the Thistle Ha'
herd than has the last named. He won everything shown for in the best
Canadian shows and a great many prizes in the United States as well.
Sirius— 15281 = 110252. was an imported Secret bull bred by Mr. Cruick-
shank and calved the property of Mr. Duthie. He proved a wonderful sire
and won some prizes as well. He was sired by Leonidas (926) and his dam
was Sarcasm by Cumberland (46144). Sarcasm was one of Mr. Cruickshank's
best cows.

Fanny Princess 2nd has been a very profitable cow. She is of that old
and reliable Scotch family, imported to Canada about the time that this herd
was founded. Good bulls nearly always Scotch bred have been used on them
since and results have invariably been good cattle, of the strong early matur-
ing kind.
Brave Baron=232593was sired by Mr. Johnston's Indian Chief (57485)
so well known as a great sire that it is scarcely necessary to repeat his great
achievements. Few bulls 'have bred better; or transmitted greater power to
their offspring to breed on,' than has Indian Chief.
Brave Baron's dam was a good cow, Baroness Aberdeen 2nd, bred by
Hon. M. H. Cochrane, and sired by imported Heir Apparent (5138o).
Governor Stanley- 141 18 -was bred by Hugh Howden and sired by the
Cruickshank.,Lavender bull, Duke of Lavender (51:135), his dam was Fashion's
Fancy by imported •Gladiator:. (54364). Mr. Howden has always used the best
bulls to be found and the Fashion Family, from which Governor Stanley is
descended, cannot be' duplicated*many times in any Country as a good family
of thick smooth cattle.

Fascination is a great thick heifer of the type that makes money for the
feeder. She is from a grand old tribe that has been improving the cattle in
Canada since 1835. They have been bred on sensible lines and have done a
world of good here. Originally imported from Scotland, the best of sires
have been used since and no family of cattle show better results than does
this family tracing to Imported Louisa by Baron of Kidsdale (11156).
Royal Prince (71490) is a straight bred Golden Drop and had for sire
and dam successful prize-winning animals in Scotland. No family has done
more for Scotch Shorthorns than has 'the Golden Drops and none of them has
been more successful as a sire than has Royal Prince. He was used in Mr.
Campbell's herd for one year and in the Thistle Ha' herd for six years since
being imported.
Brave Baron -23259=was bred by Arthur Johnston and sired by his
unsurpassed Indian Chief (57485) a Cruickshank Victoria of the best kind.
Brave Baron's dam was Baroness Aberdeen 2nd by Heir Apparent (51380).

Langford Eclipse (83848) was selected by John Miller, Jr., for use in the
Thistle Ha' herd, and was purchased at a big price. His breeding was just
what was required, his ancestors were of that individual stamp that satisfied the
needs of a good herd in its leader. His individuality was of such a high order
that he appeared in every way to be just what he has proved himself to be, one
of the best bulls and one of the best sires living. The Thistle Ha' herd has
long been noted for the quality of the sires used in it. This bull will show for
himself and for the herd that there has been no falling off in this respect.
Count Valiant (74307) was himself a grand bull and he was sired by the
great Victoria bull, Count Arthur (70194) that was such a success in the herd
of Mr. Duthie and that won for his breeder Mr Willis, the prize on every occasion
possible, for the best cow and two of her progeny when shown with his sister,
Victoria's Countess and their dam.
Count Valiant's dam was Sittyton Violet, bred by Mr. Duthie and sired by
the Cruickshank bull, Glengarry (62633) Sittyton Violet is one of the best of
that grand old Sittyton Family that has produced such as Violet's Forth and
several of the best bulls too, that have been used in the Sittyton herd.
Wiltshire Victor (71883) was shown many times by Mr. Willis and always
made a mark for himself. He was finally sold after being used successfully in
the Bapton herd, for a good price to go abroad. His sire was the grandly bred
Victoria bull, Count Victor (66877) by Count Lavender (60545) the winner of
52 first prises and Championships in Britain and the sire of many of Mr. Willis'
best,: and' his dam was Victoria 84th by Gondolier (52956) Wiltshire Victor's
dam was Wiltshire Daisy, bred by Mr. Willis and sired by Rising Star (54920)
He was bred by Mr. Marr, was sired by William of Orange(5o694) his dam being

Ardlethen Royal is a smooth good fleshed' bull, with straight lines and
with plenty of masculine character. He is from the same dam as the bull
Prince of the Forest (81943), imported and sold by auciion in 1902, a won-
derful good bull and proving a marvellous sire.
A half-sister of Ardlethen Royal (from samme sire) brought at the Upper -
mill sale $1600.00 ; a half-sister (from same dam) at same sale brought S 1400.00
The Princess Royal family, to which Ardlethen belongs, was the most
numerous in the Marr herd and the 18 of all ages at the dispersion brought
$800.00 each. Ardlethen Royal was not developed when in Scotland for he
was allowed to run with a few cows and live on pasture alone. He will make
a grand bull, fit to head any herd and do it justice.
Baron Beaufort (80399) was bred by Lord" Lovat from his Broadhooks
family and was sired by that great sire of winners and high priced bulls Royal
Star (71502). Baron Beaufort was himself sold for a big price after having
won a first prize at Inverness, to Mr. Marr and was used a great deal by him
in 19o2 and sold to Mr. Flatt for importation to Canada. He is a particularly
well bred bull and breeds well.
My Choice (57785) was a Missie by William of Orange (5o694) his dam
being Missie 87th by Prince Royal (45413) a Princess Royal of Mr. Marr's
best breeding.
Lord Lavender (54616) was a straight bred Lavender, sired by Cumber-
land (46144), dam Lavender 15th by Lord Warden, (31766). He was used
and much appreciated in the Marr hgrd.
Athabasca 473591 was a wonderful bulland a great getter. One of the
best Mr. Cruickshank ever bred was the verdict of those who knew him. He,
too, did a great work in the Marr herd:

Moderator is a very good bull indeed. He has been used in a good herd
and has been sure and satisfactory. He is smooth and a good feeder and few
bulls for genuine usefulness excell him. The family is a very old one in the
hands of the Messrs. Miller for they imported the foundation about 6o years
ago. '
Royal Prince (71490) is a straight bred member of the Golden Drop
family and few families have done more for Scotland and Canada than this one.
His sire was a show bull. winner of a first in a strong class when sold by Mr.
Robertson. His sire was a Cruickshank bull and his dam was Emmeline 3rd
,sired. by Mr. Duthie. . Royal Prince's dam was a prize winner at Aberdeen and
.she was a wonderful producer. Amongst her calves was the dam of Mr. Flatt's
Golden Fame.
Aberdeen=18949=-was a first prize winner in Toronto and many more
places. His sire was Sittyton Sort (61831), used by Mr. Campbell but bred by
Mr. Cruickshank. His dam was Selina, bred by Mr. Campbell, and by Royal
James (54972) also bred by Cruickshank.
Wimple's Heir=14529=was a well bred Wimple, his sire and dam both
being imported. by. Mr.. Redmond, and both were good individuals.

Bull of Messrs. Colling's
Sterling is a young bull of great merit, is a good feeder and has good
disposition. He bids fair to be a good representative of the Secret Family
from which he comes. His sire, his dam and all his brothers and sisters he
has had have been excellent feeders and naturally thick -fleshed. This is a
guarantee of his value in a herd where an improvement is required in this
most important feature.
Royal Prince (71490) was used by Mr. Campbell at Kinellar for one year
and has been at Thistle Ha' for six years with great success. Few sires have
left such valuable offspring at any time and none in the past ten years have
approached him in the merit of his calves. They have sold for good prices
and in some instances have reached enormous figures in the sale ring.
Topsman (63447) was a very thick -fleshed bull, he had a very thick -
fleshed mother, and his calves were the easiest feeders we have known. The
dam of Sterling as well as his sister, Sally's Secret, will go far Ito show that
this good quality is going to stand by the third and fourth generations.
The Secret family has been one of the most successful in the hands of
Mr. Cruickshank and with those to whom he has sold members of the family.
They are good milkers as well as the easiest of feeders.

Langford Eclipse (83848) was by Count Valiant (74307), bred by Wm.
Duthie by Count Arthur (70194) and from Sittyton Violet, a splendid speci-
men of the Cruickshank Violets kept in the herd of Mr. Duthie.
Langford Eclipse's dam is Lavender Lilac, bred by Mr. J. D. Willis, she
was by Wiltshire Victor (71883), also bred by Mr. Willis. The next dam was
Lavender Gem by the Cruickshank bull Christmas Present (63793), and the
remainder of the pedigree is all of the best Cruickshank Lavender blood
Langford Eclipse (83848) is individually as good as his breeding and he bid
fair to equal both with his breeding powers. He is in the sale and will show
for himself.
Missie of Neidpath 11th is also in the sale, and she is a good representa-
tive of that great family of Shorthorns, the Missies. They have been bred
for many.years in the hands of that most careful and successful breeder, the
late W. S. Marr, and something of their worth may be known by the record of
$840.00 each for 15 females of all ages from 5 mos. to 16 years made at the
dispersion of the herd.
The brothers of Meteor have invariably proven good sires and great bulls,
his sisters have gone into the best herds in the land and have done well. He,
too, must prove a good investment and fit to adorn any herd.

Langford Eclipse (83848) is the imported bull now at the head of
Thistle Ha' herd. He is one of the -best bred Cruickshanks Lavenders Living,
A full sister one year old sold for 26o guineas at Mr. Marr's sale and anpther
yearling heifer from his sister made Soo Guineas.
There are not many bulls like Langford Eclipse and he was purchased
for a big price after spending a lot of time looking for something of his stamp
in Great Britain.
Nonpareil (75140) was a noted bull and proved a good sire both in
Scotland and in Cauada. He was a well bred member of the family noted in
all countries where Shorthorns have gone.
Zoedone_(68124) was by Rajah (67685) and from Mr. Gordon's Zoe 2nd
by Star of Morning (58189).
Caesar (58580) was an Augusta sired by Clear -the -way (47604) dam
Augusta 19th by Royal George (50369). Few families are as popular in
Scotland as the Aug.ustas, and their smooth flesh has made them the winners
of more Smithfield Champlonships than any other family of Shorthorns.
There will also be sold at same time 3 Clydesdale Stallions and 5 Mares
mostly imported.
Catalogues for which will be furnished those who desire them.
