A Turned- off Niagara
Fortunately, Niagara Falls was turned off for only a
-few months last year as a conservation measure. But
tis photo by the Ontario Water Resources Commis-
sion is a graphic warning of what could happen if we
forget that man wqs put .upon the earth "to till it and
to keep it." (Genesis 2:15)
How close we've come to a permanently dried-up
Niagara was discussed at a UNESCO conference in
1968 when more than two hundred experts from
fifty countries met. in Paris, Within twenty years,
they decided, life on our planet will be showing the
first signs of succumbing to pollution: the atmosphere
will become unbreathable for men and animals; life
will cease in rivers and lakes; plants will wither from
poisoning.
Church members can play a vital part in conserving
our natural resources. They should protest pollution
in all its forms and insist that governments, industry
and public recognize that nature"s laws are so con-
trived that land, water, plants and animals should
exist in harmony and inter -dependence for perpetual
productiveness.
