X P (CHRIST)
The symbols IHC and IHS stand for Jesus, the human name of our Lord and are
incomplete without XP which stands for His title. It, too, is an abbreviation being the
first two letters of "Christ" in Greek. It is one of the most ancient of all symbols.
Countless examples of it are found in the catacombs and on early coins and pottery.
It is well for us to remember the difference between IHC and XP. The former tells
us WHO our Lord was; the latter tells WHAT HE DID: The former is the PERSON;
the latter is His PURPOSE. Jesus came to earth to be, the Christ, the "Anointed One"
of prophecy, the King in all His dignity and glory. When men realized that Jesus was
the Christ, He became Lord and God for them. That is the importance of Peter's
confession in the Gospel of St. Matthew 16: 16 "Simon Peter replied, :'Yoga are the
Christ, the Son of the Living God'!" It is the Central conviction of the Christian keligion,
and the cornerstone of our Faith today, Jesus is the Christ, "God with us
My Money Creed
1. "To spend my income rightly, is one of my first tasks as a Christian. Until I
settle this, my prayers and confessions will be saying, 'Lord, Lord', and not
doing the Will of my Father.
2. I should set aside a definite portion of my income for the Church. and the
service of others. I do this in acknowledgment of God's sovereignty over all my
material possessions. I do this because it is businesslike. Giving . on impulse
and without system does not accord with the importance of this work.
S. The proportion to be set aside for these purposes should not be less than
one -tenth of my income. 'The Old Testament enjoined the tithe 'in ancient
Israel, and surely I am receiving far more. from God than did the men of any
former generation. Nevertheless, one -tenth is not to be the limit of my giving.
I should begin with not less than one -tenth. I ought to give more, if I am able".
