Meanwhile, the paramedics gave the bird
some water, rigged up a shady, quiet shelter
firr him and fed him.
Before too lung, the goose, named Hank
by the paramedics. appeared to recover nicely
on his own.
"He's walking around. using both wings,
stretching them," Ms. Dockman says. "Hc
seems to be quite healthy. What a change."
One person to whom the paramedics
turned for advice was Bill Lishman, the
Blackstock resident who's famous for having
trained a flock of Canada geese to fly and led
them on migration flights.
He told them that geese don't fly much in
the summer. Because of this, when they do
start flying again, they sometimes have prob-
lems.

Crackdown by cops
nothing but a cash grab
To the editor:
Let me refer to the ongoing drive by Durbam Police to
Combat moving traffic violations. It was fine at first, but
has now turned into nothing more than a punishing rev-
enue grab on people who can Ileast afford it.
Surely if the cops were serious about public safety they
would hand out warnings to offenders at first. Consider
Friday, July 14 when two cops on bikes were on Liverpool
Road South peeking out from behind parked cars trying
to nab offenders. Surely one of them could have been bik-
ing around the parks and schools trying to put a dent in
the ever-increasing incidents of vandalisnL On two occa-
sions, police cars totally obstructed one lane on Pickering
Parkway and Liverpool! Road handing out tickets, and
some time ago I was banded a $5250 ticket for not signing
my licence w ink instead of pencil That sifiy ticket doesn't
do much for public relations, wbkb are now at an ar-time
low.
I would suggest that V the top cop needs more revenue
he should think abort laying off three or four cops rather
than further alienating the public. 1 y.
My advice to the public is under Section 7-14 of the
Charter of Rights: You have the right to remain silent if
you feel it is in your interest to do so, however, you must
show your licence and insurathce certificate, but no other
identification is required unless a criminal offence going
on at that moment.
Finally, police should leave the working public alone
and go after the big crime money. We are already regulat-
ed to death.

You also forgot to mention seniors who
go to bingo at least three times a week.
Now, I don't begrudge anyone a game of
bingo, but there is a difference in spending
$20 or $30 a night at bingo or $2 for a pre-
scription for their health.
I happened to go to a euchre game in
town and was surprised at all the senior
friends I met and how they talked of dwir
last trip to Florida and the tact that they
were looking forward to their trip to
Florida again this year. It sure made me
think $2 could not be a fighting issue as,
Mr. Syme, you thought it would be.
You can go ahead and vote Liberal; you
will still pay $2 or more for your prescrip-
tions. If it's a great plan brought in by the
Conservatives you can count on the
Liberals not to get rid of it, or haven't you
noticed that before now?
Every store in this area, once a week or
once a month month, gives 10 to 15 per
cent off to seniors. Save up the 15 per cent
and in a short time, Mr. Syme, you have $2
to make your health better.

Abraham Lincoln once said, to para-
phrase: "You can fool all of the people
some of the time, but not all of them all of
the time". It appears Janet Ecker and her
government are trying to disprove this say-
ing by constantly trying to fool the elec-
torate all the time with their doubletalk and
sneaky legislation.
I'm not interested in Ms. Esker's usual
politi(tal excuse that this service costs more
elsewhere. My concern is that there should
be no cost in this province.
The government should have larked at
the root of high drug costs caused by high
prices the drug companies and pharmacies
charge, before blaming and penalizing
seniors for using the medication prescribed
by our doctors to keep us healthy.

Re: Jack Synic's comments in your

First of' all, I'm a senior and live on an
income hclow $10.018. Unlike k1r. S\me. I
don't think the: government broke am of its
promises, as many of the drugs taken otl
the drug plan for seniors by the 1_ibcrals

Here 10 years ago — the: richest and hest

FIND MY BIKES!
Someone stole both of my bikes out of
my garage on Goodman Dr. in Oshawa
(near Waverty/Adelaide). I had to work
very hard to buy my new bike. It is an

packs, one on front, one in crossbar.
IT'S A BRAND NEW BIKE!! Also they
took my old bike, which is a Mountain
Bike, only one is deep bright yellow with
black writing. Also looks new. If you
know anything or see my bikes, please
call me - Connor, or my Mom - Hope at

SUMMER, WHAT SUMMER???
1 don't know if you remember in the
Spring, the predictions the great economic
Guru's gave, but to refresh your memory,
they predicted strong economic growth. I
must be blind because so far I have not
seen any signs of vast improvement.
However, maybe the predictions were
based on us actually having a SUMMER
(IE: warm sunny weather) rather than
going from Spring to Fall.
RATES, RATES, RATES!!!
In my last article, I stated that PRIME
would go down, but watch out for
mortgage rates. Well, Prime did drop, and
loan and mortgage rates did not. Surprise,
surprise, could this be just a way to
increase the astronomical profits that are
already in place? No, Big Brother would
not do that to us? Or would they?
IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!
To me,the only thing that will stimulate
the Economy, is JOB SECURITY. If we
are all nervous that next week, or next
month, we will be laid off, let go, or the
company just close the doors.
How can anyone expect us to go on
purchasing sprees, if we have an ax over
our head?
Although it may not be Politically correct,
lets funnel some funds to the struggling
businesses that are trying to survive, and
lets monitor and restrict some of the
corporations that are making these
ludicrous profits.
WHAT SHOULD I DO???
Simply put. get your own finances in order.
Although I am an optimist rather than a
pessimist, unfortunately you must look at
things "WORST CASE SCENARIO". If you
can have your finances set up this way, even
if things temporarily do get worse, you can
survive.
Consolidations are the best way to reduce
your monthly output, and actually start to be
able to save some money. The average
savings per month are in the S5(X) to $7(X)
range, with some clients saving in excess of
$1400 per month.
WHY THE MORTGAGE FACTORY???
That is the easiest question to answer. After
being in operation for all most 22 years, a
great amount of knowledge and
professionalism have been accumulated. The
individual structuring of each and every
applicant's file is of the utmost importance,
especially in today's economic climate. Also
don't forget that we provide mortgage at
1/2% below other lenders posted rates.
Private funds are available at competitive
rates, and secured and unsecured lines of
credit are available. Unsecured loans are
available to $50,000. Second mortgages on a
line of credit are available from 6.25%. So in
conclusion you get fast professional service
tailored to you, with the best available rates
and terms available in the marketplace.
Till next time, Keep the Faith
