The Christian Church, stood ion the property, Lot
19, purchased from the Late Thomas Hubbard, who
settled on the said Lot, in 1792.
After church union, in 1925, the church was sold,
and most of the remaining members joined the United
Church of Canada.
The bell in the old tower, being in good condition,
was .given to the United Church, to by used as a fire
bell, also, for church service. Since the firemen have
installed a siren, the bell is still being used to call
people to worship, which seems to be very important
in these :days of stress and strain.

QUAKER BURIAL GROUND
This Burial Ground, owned by the Religious Society of Friends
(Quakers), is one of the oldest in Pickering.
Early information is to be found (rather oddlv), in the Will
of Timothy Rogers, an early Quaker settler in Pickering, who
donated the land for a Quaker Meeting House and Burial Ground.
Timothy Rogers prime concern was the establishment of the Quaker
settlements, first at Yonge Street, then at Pickering. In his Will
dated 1829, Timothy Rogers referred to the Burial Ground in
Pickering and mentioned that his wife Sarah, his daughter Sarah and
his sons, John Wilde and John Emsley and others were buried there.
In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, graves in some
Quaker Burial Grounds were not marked by gravestones. Thus there
are no markers for Timothy Rogers or for any of the persons
mentioned in his Will.
1830 is the earliest recorded date found on a gravestone, marking
where several of the Betts family are buried.
The Burial Ground is a reminder of the heritage and roots
established by the first Quaker settlers early in the settlement
of Pickering Township.
