page 5.We have to chronicle this week the death of Matilda E., relict of the late Jordan Post,
which event occurred on Friday morning, April 9th. The deceased was born in Bowmanville on
Dec. 3rd, 1819, her parents being James annd Elizabeth Bates. In 1836 she married Jordan
Post, and came with him to Pickering immediately aferwards, taking up their residence in the old
Post homestead, east of this village, removing some time afterwards to the present homestead.
Mr Post died in 1860, leaving four sons and four daughters, all of whom survive the parents.
The deceased was very highly esteemed by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance.
The funeral took place on Monday last from her late residence, and was attended by friends
from Toronto, Bowmanville, Oshawa, Whitby, and other places. The remains were interred at
the Desciple's burial ground West of Pickering.
