Passes. Lifelong Resident of Pickering Twp.A member of a family of district pioneers,
Frederick Lachlan Green, passed away at his home, Greenwood on Sunday last in his 80th year.
Mr. Green was the grandson of the late Frederick Green, who came to Canada from England
about 1838, and settled in that community, which he later named Greenwood. Mr. Green
succeeded his father, the late Samuel Green, as owner of the Greenwood Flour Mill, a business
which his grandfather establised over 100 years ago. He contunued in business till last year
when failing health compelled him to give up his active life in business. Deceased has been one
of our outstanding, leading businessmen, and limited his intersts not only to that of milling, by
was a widely-known horticulturist, a one-time prominent Jersey breeder. His personal library
and collection of books and botanical specimans were the envy of many .Being a descendant of
pioneers in Pickering, Mr. Green possessed a collection dating back to that period, and
including tools, crude farm implements, farm home utensils of that period, all of which are
extemely interesting to the generation of today.Around his beautiful home, he proudly told of the
history of each tree and bush, seeds and plants of which in most cases had been bought from
other countries. His peony garden when in bloom was one of the sights of the community in that
season...he was always eager and willing to show his visitors aroung his beautiful home and
grounds. The village and community of Greenwood, particularly are going to miss one whose
philanthropic work amongst his own neighbours will never be recorded. The church loses a
loyal friend, as well every one in the neighborhood.Surviving are; His widow, the former Kate
E. Stevenson; daughter Edna Green, a brother, Walter S. Geen, of Buffalo, and two sisters,
