HomeMy WebLinkAbout1317Syd was a clean-living, wholesome fellow, devoted to his family and to his work with F.M.
Chapman's Grasmere Farm. In charge of the distinguished Jersey herd, he was also largely
resposible for the creation of what we undestand is one of the finest apple orchards in the
district, with a tremednous market in Toronto and elsewhere today. In the prime of life...
everything progressing splendidly...a healthy future ahead, he is suddenly removed and taken
from a work at which he was making a success, leaving a family of his wife, the former Jean
Annan, and six children from fifteen to one year: Franak , John, Marily, Carolyn, William and
Stanley. There are also two brothers: Norman, of Toronto and Arthyur, of Belleville, and his
mother.Rev. Arthur Young, Minister of Pickering United Church, conducted the service assisted
by former misters, Rev. M.R. Jenkinson and Rev. J.S. Ferguson. Service was held on Mondy
afternoon, the auditorium being totally filled with friends of the deceased. Interment took place at
Mount Lawn Cemetery, Oshawa.Pallbearers were: Messers Percy Neal, Fred Puckerin, C.S.
Bryant, Henry Westney, Ernie Trimble, and Reg [Ide].In a letter to the Editor from his employer
we would like to quote the following paragraph regarding the deceased. "He was singularily
gifted in the possession of pleasing personality , was well read on current and scientific topics
and was called in frequently by the neighbors for advice along catttle and orchard lines.
As a salesman he was hard to surpass. He was the soul of honour and his word was his bond.
Nothing was too much trouble for him to assist another and his faithfulness to his employer was
commented upon by all."
